At almost 7,000 words, this beast is a freshman college term paper. I suggest taking the entire "Animal Husbandry" section (which is a little about strategy, less about pure game mechanics) and creating its own article. That would cut the size ~about~ in half (AH looks actually ~about~ 3/5 the total). Yes, they are directly related, but so is most of the game - lots of inter-links will solve any problems there, and as Editors, we have to draw distinctions to make/keep things manageable, and readable for the (below-)average reader (I'm thinking non-native, among others). This is an overwhelming amount of info on one page, a true WoT, with all the negatives that come with that acronym. <br> If no objections, I'll do this next weekend.
Plant categories
As you may have noticed I started cleaning up the plant categories. I need a bit of help regarding the categories and their definitions. Here are some definitions as I would understand them:

First of all the plants can be split into:
* Domesticated plants: All plants that can be planted by the player.
* Wild plants: All plants that can't be planted by the player.

Secondly plants can be split according to their harvest result:
* Resource plants: All plants that produce any kind of resources except food and wood.
* Food plants (new category): Everything that can be harvested for some kind of food.
* Tree: Everything that produces wood.

Thirdly there are also decorative plants where the definition is particulary difficult:
* All plants that can be planted by the player and cannot be harvested
* All plants that are particulary beautiful

There is a lot of overlap in these definitions. This are the special cases (I know of) that need to be considered:
* Cocoa trees are called trees and can like other trees only be planted every other tile but they can't be chopped for wood.
* Bonsai trees are called trees and can be chopped for wood but otherwise don't behave like trees and are meant as a decorative plant.
* Some wild plants can be harvested.

Any thoughts on this? --Ickputzdirwech (talk) 11:22, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

: i am about 80% sure that the domesticated, decorative, wild, and tree categories are actually from the game. I vaguely remember dandelions finding out that dandelions are actually miscategorized. i caht look at the game files to check atm and might not be able to do so for the next couple of days. ultimately only reader centric categories need to match the game, so additional sorting categories not linked to the types can be whatever you need. i trust you to make good choices on that regard Harakoni (Wiki Moderator) (talk) 23:34, 25 March 2022 (UTC)>

:: My trouble is I looked in that game files and the only thing that's like categories is the "purpose" property (Food, Beauty, Misc). Couldn't find anything like categories in game either. The thing about dandelions is that there are no wild and domestic variants of them. So one could argue that they belong in the "wild" category, not "beauty". Or at least both. --Ickputzdirwech (talk) 09:25, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

:: Also I would say that Anima trees are "wild" plants as well. I think the best way forward is to consequently assign the categories and accept that there will be quite a bit of overlap. --Ickputzdirwech (talk) 09:31, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

:: I added my findings and definitions. It's still subject to change. Another special case is the Burned stump which can't be planted by the player, but is it really a "wild" plant? Also "crop" is a nice word, maybe we should use it instead of plants e.g. Food crop? But wouldn't this exclude things like berry bushes? Would that be a bad thing? Lots of questions I need to think about. --Ickputzdirwech (talk) 10:42, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
real plant growth time
Pretty sure the real grow days numbers all over the wiki and in the tables are incorrect, because Growth Remaining=0,95 instead of 1 which seems to have been used, since "growth starts at 5%, means that all plants only need to grow 95% from the moment they are sown".

Actual Growth Time = (Growth Remaining × 60,000 Ticks/Day × growDays) ÷ (Growing Ticks/Day × GRF(F) × GRF(T) × GRF(L))

Producing a packaged survival meal takes 0.6 units of nutrition in ingredients and yields 0.9 units of nutrition as a result -- a 50% net nutrition gain. This is not as efficient compared to other meals such as fine meals, so it's best not to prepare these for regular colony use. Unlike most other meals, packaged survival meals can be sold to traders and friendly settlements.

Acquisition
Crafted at a fueled stove or electric stove with 0.3 nutrition of vegetarian ingredients and 0.3 nutrition of meat. For example. 6 rice and 6 meat can create a meal.

Given at the beginning with the Crashlanded scenario.

Analysis
Packaged survival meals will always be accepted by trade caravans and orbital traders in trade. Their market value is not affected by their ingredients; insect meat and human meat can be converted into packaged survival meals to sell at full value.

Compared to pemmican:
* Packaged survival meals have slightly worse nutrition per ingredient (50% vs. 60%)
* Packaged survival meals do not have the nutritional flexibility that pemmican has, only offering a single chunk of .9 nutrition vs. the precise .05 bites of pemmican. See the Pemmican page for details.
* Packaged survival meals are slightly more efficient in terms of carry weight (3 nutrition/kg vs. 2.78 nutrition/kg, or ~8% more/kg carried).
* Packaged survival meals are drastically more efficient in storage space (9 nutrition/stack vs. 3.75 nutrition/stack).
* Packaged survival meals require 43% less work to make.
* Packaged survival meals never expire, while pemmican expires after 70 days if not refrigerated or frozen.
* Packaged survival meals are slightly less valuable in terms of wealth (0.038 nutrition/$ vs. 0.036 nutrition/$).
* Packaged survival meals are accepted by all traders; pemmican may not be.

This makes researching and producing packaged survival meals a good choice for long-term travel or emergency rations, once a colony has both the required stove and cook.
Since global animal stats have been altered in 1.3.3066, someone will have to crawl through every page mentioning an animal and change the stats.
Split this Article
<br> If no objections, I'll do this next weekend. | description = A multiplier on the price at which you can sell items.
}}

An item's multiplier is solely determined on the type of item:

Type !! Factor
Sculptures || ×1.1
Weapons || ×0.2

The default value for all other items - including materials, food, apparel, etc. - is 1 (100% market value). These multipliers only apply for selling, not buying.

The multipliers make it more difficult to farm raids for profit, because weapons dropped by dead enemies are not valuable in trade. It also means that crafting weapons in your colony only makes sense for personal use, and not for selling. The game encourages creating art for sale, as it is about 57% more profitable than regular constructed items.

Trading comes with additional modifiers, a base of 60% when selling and 140% when buying, documented in Trade Price Improvement. These modifiers are unrelated to the Sell Price Multiplier, and applied independently.

If not explicitly specified, an item's market value defaults to a formula-determined value:

<big>M = (I + W × 0.0036) × Q × H</big>

where
* I = combined market value of all ingredients
* W = work in ticks to make the item, where there are 60 ticks to a second. The game displays this in the item information window in seconds, which assumes 1x game speed and 100% work speed even when the base workspeed is lower than 100%. The displayed value also rounds the work value to the nearest second for example - an item that takes 35 ticks to make will be displayed in-game as taking 1 Work, despite taking only 0.583 seconds to construct at 100% speed. An approximation of the value for W can be found by multiplying the in-game Work displayed by 60, but the exact value is defined in the XML in ticks by the WorkToMake, or for buildings the WorkToBuild, stats.
* Q = quality multiplier. See quality for details.
* H = health multiplier. An item retains 100% of its value down to 90% HP, then loses 1.67% of its maximum value per 1% HP lost between 90% and 60% HP, 4% of its maximum value per 1% HP lost between 60% and 50% HP, and 0.2% of its maximum value per 1% HP lost between 50% and 0% HP. The item will have 50% of its maximum value at 60% HP and only 10% of its maximum value at 50% HP. The health multiplier only applies to certain items, as controlled by their XML definition. See Deterioration for details.

Items with a market value of above 200 will have their market value rounded to be divisible by 5, with a remainder of 2.5 being rounded down. Prices over $10 will be rounded to the nearest whole number.
