RimWorld makes use of a handful of different resources. Resources have to be hauled to the stockpile area in order to be used anywhere in your base.

Current available resources are listed below.
clr

Money
Money is only used for trading. You get money when you sell other resources, weapons or people as slaves, and you can spend money to buy other resources, weapons and slaves to become new colonists.
There is no maximum limit to the amount of money, but traders always have a limited budget.
clr

Raw food
Raw food is used by colonists to survive, either directly when starving, or via the nutrient paste dispenser when available to eat meals. Raw food is extracted from plants, either wild plants when there no growing going on, potato plants grown in the growing area, or accele-potato plants grown on a hydroponics table.
Raw food can be traded.
clr

Metal
Metal is the only construction resource needed to build structures and buildings. It is extracted from mining mineral tiles and unlike raw food, doesn't need any refining process to be used once it has been hauled to the stockpile area.
Metal can be traded.
clr

Uranium
Supposed to be used in reactors.
(Build 254) Uranium has no use yet in RimWorld.
<br>Uranium can only be traded for profit.
clr

Medikits
Supposed to be used to heal colonists.
(Build 254) Medikits have no use yet in RimWorld.
<br>Medikits can only be traded for profit.
clr

Shells
Supposed to be fired by cannons.
(Build 254) Shells have no use yet in RimWorld.
<br>Shells can only be traded for profit.
clr
Missiles
Supposed to be fired by missile launchers.
I know that there is at least 1 more thought in the code (no more than 2) that had to do with colonists being left out in the open (the other one might have something else to do with dead colonists). I did not add them to the list beccause I was not able to reproduce them in the game.
The game starts of with three colonists being dropped in on escape/transfer pods (as can be somewhat seen on the right) on the map. This is how the majority of colonists are introduced onto the map, although some will also walk into the map from the border. Colonists have a wide variety of outfits based on their job, which is determined by their backstory. In general the less manual-oriented colonists will have lab coats on, while the more labor-intensive colonists will wear a solid color.
Equipment
Main Article: Weapons

Colonists can be equipped with various items which are shown on their information panel while individually selected. They can only be equipped with one item at a time, and their skill with that item is determined by their skill with Shooting. An example of this can be seen below.

Overview
The overview screen allows the setting of what tasks each colonist is allowed to perform. Colonists will have a natural aptitude at a task, and have no check-boxes for tasks they are unable to perform. With the default prioritization, the priority of the tasks is preset, and can't be changed. An example of this can be seen below.

As of build 243, one can prioritize a colonist's actions manually. To do this, one goes to the Overview menu, and checks the Manual Priorities box in the upper left-hand corner. The colonist has the numbers 1-4 in each check-box available, with 1 being the highest priority. If two or more tasks have the same prioritization number, then the colonist will do the task on the left of the menu first.
Needs
The two needs in the game (as of build 254b) are food and rest. Both gradually degrade over time. Rest is replenished by sleeping in a bed or sleeping spot, while food is replenished by eating... well, food.

Colonists are the new people of each RimWorld colony. Each colonist has specific skills, limitations set and a character background. In general, colonists are every human except for raiders/travelers/prisoners. The colonists come in various outfits based on their background, which can be seen by looking at the 'Character' tab in game.

Upon creating a new colony, a screen where 3 colonists can be <!--currently--> randomized individually is shown. Each of the colonists has a name, an age, a backstory, limitations, traits, and skills. The name, age, and traits all seem to not have any effect on the colonist.

Backstory
Each colonist will have two parts to their backstory: childhood and adulthood. Each trait has a small story to go along with it, with the name of the colonist filled in for each story. Each different backstory has different effects on the colonist such as: increasing stats, decreasing stats, and disallowing certain tasks. Such information is important to consider when creating the first three colonists for the new colony, as future colonists can sometimes be hard to come by.
Playing

Colonists will have a natural aptitude at a task, and have no checkboxes for tasks they are unable to perform. The priority of the tasks is preset, and can't be changed. An example of this can be seen below.

- A bed/sleeping area marked for prisoner use in the cell (select and toggle 'Prisoner Use' to mark for prisoners - the bed/area will turn orange)

First select the drafted colonist, then right-click the target to arrest, and select arrest <name>. This will order the colonist to chase after, then escort, the target person. This does not work on Raiders without incapacitating them first. While the colonist is drafted, their food and rest meters will decrease. This may cause a mental break to occur, at which point the colonist will drop the prisoner, who will attempt to escape if not incapacitated.

Hosting a Prisoner
A prisoner will require a bed or sleeping spot and food like a colonist or they may die. If the cell is broken, the prisoner will make an attempt to escape but can only be recaptures if the Taking a Prisoner conditions are met.

Prisoners Interaction
Only wardens will interact with prisoners as stated how in the Prisoner Interface. In the situation a prisoner is incapacitated, a doctor is required to feed the prisoner.

Prisoner Interface
The prisoner tab is shown on any captive person, and allows interaction with the prisoner via a Warden colonist. Actions that inspire fear or happiness can be selected, or no action at all.

Gets food
Wardens will provide food if available.

Try to recruit
Wardens will try to convince the prisoner to join the colony but will only succeed at a certain percentage when the loyalty of the prisoner is above the recruitment threshold.

No interaction
Wardens will not interact with the prisoner causing no increase or decrease in Happiness or Fear thoughts.

Friendly chat
Wardens will have a conversation with the prisoner causing an increase in Happiness thoughts.

Mild beating=
Wardens will mildly beat the prisoner causing a decrease in Happiness thoughts and an increase in Fear thoughts.

Vicious beating
Wardens will viciously beat the prisoner causing a decrease in Happiness thoughts and an increase in Fear thoughts.

Execution
The warden will kill the prisoner.
