A Cataphract helmet is a type of advanced armor introduced by the Royalty DLC that can effectively block gunshots, cuts, blunt trauma, or burns. It forms a full set along with the Cataphract armor.
Acquisition[edit]
Cataphract helmets can be crafted at a fabrication bench once the cataphract armor research project has been completed. Note that this research requires two techprints. Each requires 50 Plasteel, 1 Advanced component, 26,250 ticks (7.29 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 8.
Alternatively, the helmet can be received as a quest reward, purchased from traders, or found on Imperial Cataphracts.
Analysis[edit]
Cataphract helmets provides the best protection of any helmet in the game, especially against blunt damage. Like recon and marine helmets, and unlike the simple or flak helmets, it covers the entire head, including the Jaw, Nose, Ears and Eyes. It provides roughly the same protection as a Marine Helmet of one quality level above its own, or of Recon Helmet two quality levels above its own. A legendary cataphract helmet reaches the cap of 200% Sharp protection.
Cataphract helmets only cost 10 plasteel more than a marine helmet to create. However, it requires the Cataphract Armor research, which itself requires 2 rare and expensive techprints to complete. Acquiring helmets through fighting the Empire is also difficult due to their ubiquitous death acidifier implants and the general difficulty of killing Cataphract-level soldiers. But, once researched, there is little reason to create marine helmets over cataphract as unlike the body armors, there is no movement penalty, and the upgrade is inexpensive. If a cataphract helmet is acquired through other means, then it will be a straight upgrade to almost any other available helmet of similar quality, and often of a number of quality tiers above.
Prestige cataphract helmets provide identical protection and cost significantly more resources and time in exchange for satisfying the apparel requirements of nobles and slightly enhancing psycasting. If there is no particular need for these benefits, then it is better to produce the base model and only craft the prestige variant as needed. However, if you already have the prestige version, then there's no reason not to use it.
In the end-game, a cataphract helmet should be equipped on every colonist that does not require some other specialized headwear, such as the prestige variant, social impact hats, or a mechlord helmet.

Styles[edit]
This article relates to content added by Ideology (DLC). Please note that it will not be present without the DLC enabled. |
Ideoligions allow the selection of styles which then change the texture of the certain items and buildings when constructed by the colony. These style variants can be crafted if the colony has the selected style, or can be looted from raiders from factions with the requisite style.
Trivia[edit]
