In RimWorld, your colonists are able to create buildings from the ground up. Structures can be made from a variety of materials, each with varying hitpoints, flammability, and beauty.

Enclosed areas will generate a constructed roof unless you apply a no roof region. As of Alpha 12 a roof can extend up to 6 cells from a wall, so interiors have a maximum size of 12 cells on the shortest side. This allows for 12 by 12 square rooms (13x13 including walls) or 12 by X rectangular rooms. Rooms built larger than this will remain unroofed (colonist buildings) or result in a roof collapse (mined rooms). Larger rooms can be built with the use of single-wall pillars.

Doors

Doors separate rooms for the use of ratings and bedrooms. They require manual operation to use, and slows down colonists when they operate it.

Autodoors

Powered operation allows people to move through it without slowing down, with the exception of stone doors. Requires a constant 50W charge to operate. A powered door opens four times as quickly, but if un-powered it acts just like a standard door. It has the same max hit points of a standard door of the same material. (A powered door requires at least ~57.69% base speed for no slow down, while un-powered requires 4x that speed, excluding all types.) Divides a room for the use of bedrooms and ratings in the same way regular doors and walls do.

Walls

An impassable wall, capable of holding up a roof if the space between supporting walls and beams is not too far away. Walls can be built out of any material and Power conduits may be constructed on an existing wall.
