An autodoor allows colonists passage through walls. It will connect to a power conduit up to six tiles away. When powered, it will open so quickly that pawns passing through are not slowed at all. When not powered, autodoors function exactly like they're normal counterparts, and when pawns pass through, they open and close at the same speed of a normal door.
A single door that is placed correctly can split up to 4 rooms or corridors from each others, like this:
▢ = Air ▣ = Door ▩ = Wall ▩ ▩ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▣ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▩ ▢ ▢ ▢ ▩ ▩
This technique is great for making compact sleeping areas because you can have 6 sleeping rooms with only 2 doors, like this:
