Psytrainer
A one-use super-dose of mechanites which trains a specific psychic power. The dose is administered through the orbit of the eye. Once released into the brain, the mechanites form knowledge of a specific psycast ability, transmuting themselves into neural tissue as needed.

The psytrainer is a rare item added by the Royalty DLC that gives psycasts.
Acquisition
Psytrainers can be obtained from trade or quests. It is always a reward for The Deserter quest.
Summary
Psytrainers can be used to learn a specified psycast. After use, the psytrainer is consumed. Each psytrainer is attuned to one specific psycast, which cannot be changed.
In order to actually use the psycast, a pawn must have a psylink high enough to use it. For example, a pawn can only use Neuroquake, a level 6 psycast, at psylink level 6. [No psylink?]
The psytrainer can be used before they reach the required psylink; the psycast will be present, but unusable. This replaces the free, random psylink you would normally receive upon reaching that psylink level.
The market value depends on the level of the psycast; higher level psycasts are more valuable. This follows the equation of 100 + 150*Level.

Analysis
Many psylinks are very powerful tools. Psytrainers ensure that a pawn will have access to any psycast, eventually. Psytrainers are rare and somewhat expensive items.
They can be good for wealth management. Psytrainers are consumed, and having a psycast will not increase colony wealth. Buying psytrainers will lower wealth, and the psycasts themselves can be very useful.
It is recommended to use a psytrainer only when a pawn has enough level to use its psycast. If a psycaster uses a Neuroquake trainer before reaching level 6, they won't receive the free psycast from reaching level 6.
