The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete|reason=reason for deletion request}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically add the page to Category:Marked for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene.

New frontpage, new templates, working on SMW to Cargo transition[edit]

I'll de-virgin this page with thoughts for the future, as this place is more fitting, I think, than the community portal's talk page. The idea is that more people can participate.

Frontpage / skin re-design[edit]

Initially I outlined some ideas here. This is a colossal task, and I may be biting over more than I can chew (I have a real life too), but let's try. So far I've worked on a skin frontpage and re-design, going to a dark-themed version instead. It resides in my user-CSS for now, so for better or worse, others can't see it unless you copy that CSS to your own user. Here is the most recent screenshot of what it looks like, though this only shows the frontpage of course (which probably needs changing further). There is still more to do, as not everything looks right. I had forgotten how incredibly many selectors and small details needed changing.

Templates[edit]

The idea, especially if we in the long-term move over to the Cargo database system, is that each thing or category has its own template, and of course its each page. That is partly why I am opposed to super-templates that try to deal with everything. Another reason is that it makes it difficult for regular users to fix and update data in the pages. Even worse if they try to fix a template. Therefore, I have now created the first draft of such a template, namely the Template:Infobox pawn template.

The main difficulty is likely going to be to make sure we have all the variables we need, and that they are sensibly defined. Unlike in SWM, where each such definition needs its own property page, this is done in the template in Cargo. If you hit Edit on that page, you see how it works in roughly the top half of the template. First the database table is defined. Then the storage of data (from pages using the template) is defined. Currently the latter half is a mess and needs a near-total rewrite, because I used a template I wrote on Pillars of Eternity. We have no CSS for the infoboxes or classes used yet, and ought to first come up with a design choice for what the infoboxes should look like. This is how this one happens to look on the Pillars of Eternity wiki, but we can of course change things a lot here, and not just in terms of colours.

Please point out if variables are missing or outdated. Perhaps a separate page or project would be best for this, if it truly becomes a cooperative endeavour. But for now, at least, I'll leave this here to inform a little bit more about thoughts and progress. Pangaea (talk) 20:59, 15 July 2019 (UTC)

An example infobox image[edit]

Interestingly, after making some CSS changes, stuff actually showed up on a test page I created earlier. It needs some adapting, but is the overall look of the thing something we could work with? What do you think? Infobox draft. Pangaea (talk) 00:00, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
