Gray statues are structures added by the Anomaly DLC. They are only found within the Labyrinth and act as one-time triggers when a pawn comes nearby.

Occurrence[edit]

Each of the two types of gray statue are found exclusively within their individual specific rooms of the Labyrinth housed within a Warped obelisk.

Both rooms are largely similar, at least 7x7 tiles with the statue inside. An abducted pawn will never be teleported into a gray statue room of either type.

Summary[edit]

There are two variants of the statue, which activate in the same way. Each statue is activated when a colonist enters its line of sight within its detection radius, which is different for every statue and varies between 3 and 8 cells. However the statue only scans the room every 250 ticks (4.17 secs) so might not immediately notice the colonist. Each statue can only be activated once.

The teleport variant spawns in an otherwise empty room and will teleport the affected pawn to a random location in the labyrinth, excluding statue rooms, fleshbeast rooms, and the obelisk room.

The deadlife dust variant is surrounded by blood filth and one to three human corpses. It will release a cloud of deadlife dust which will expand to fill most of the room it is in and resurrect the nearby corpses into hostile shamblers. This is normal deadlife dust and will raise any additional corpses that happen to be present, not only those that generate in the room.

Gray statues cannot be obtained or destroyed.

Analysis[edit]

The variants are typically easy to tell apart by the presence or absence of corpses. Once identified, further strategies can be employed based on the variant.

Interacting with teleport statues is not necessarily a bad thing if the player wants to explore, however it can expose the pawn to danger and it disconnects from the series of previously opened rooms that can give the pawn space to kite or manoeuvre.

The deadlife statues are nominally more dangerous, however typically the shamblers are not particularly dangerous unless the abducted pawn is combat ineffective. The corpses can be moved away from the statue to prevent their raising. This can be as simple as hauling them away, though if there are more corpses than you have pawns available, some will typically rise before you can move the first hauled corpse to a safe distance and return. Alternatively, the skip psycastContent added by the Royalty DLC can be used be used to move the corpses before triggering the statue, or weapons such as frag grenades can be used to destroy the corpses. Obviously avoid killing anything else in the room before the statue is triggered to not exacerbate the issue.
