While pemmican takes more ingredients per nutrition than simple/fine meals while cooking, it is more efficient while eating. The colonists try to eat just before actually getting [[Saturation#Levels of Saturation|hungry]], so they will typically eat at about 0.7-0.8 hunger. A set meal restores 0.9 nutrition, so they will waste about 15% of it. With the pemmican, they will take only as much as they need, and only waste about 2.5%.

Pemmican

A preserved mashed mixture of fat and plant food. Tastes bland, but not offensive. It lasts a very long time without refrigeration. Great for traveling.

Pemmican is a low-tech long-lasting food, ideal for caravan trips. It can be cooked (after researched) from a mixture of 0.25 nutrition from meat and 0.25 nutrition from vegetables, without cooking skill requirement, on a campfire, fueled stove or an electric stove. A single process produces 16 pemmican with 0.05 nutrition each, for 0.8 nutrition total, and up to 20 can be consumed in one sitting. It can also be purchased from traders.

Pemmican is very useful for long-term food storage before you get freezers, as they last 70 days on their own before rotting. It does not provide any mood boost though, so fine meals, which have more nutrition efficiency and also provide a +5 mood boost, are better for daily consumption.

While pemmican takes more ingredients per nutrition than simple/fine meals while cooking, it is more efficient while eating. The colonists try to eat just before actually getting hungry, so they will typically eat at about 0.7-0.8 hunger. A set meal restores 0.9 nutrition, so they will waste about 15% of it. With the pemmican, they will take only as much as they need, and only waste about 2.5%.
