Rice is harvested from rice plants and is one of the four edible plants your colonists can grow. It provides slightly more nutrition per day than corn or potatoes assuming perfect harvesting efficiency and normal soil fertility, but requires more work than the former and is less resilient to poor fertility than the latter. However, while the short time between planting and harvest is a blow to its efficiency, the fast cycle time provides a steady nutrition stream and ensures that a single blight or cold snap can't wipe out half a quadrum of growth. As well, while potatoes are superior in poor fertility soils, rice performs admirably well in biomes with decent soil but short planting seasons. Planting rice in high-fertility soil compounds both the benefits and drawbacks of its short harvest cycle.

Unless your colonist has the Ascetic trait, consuming rice in its raw state causes the Ate raw food thought, which has a -7 mood penalty. Cook it into meals or pemmican before eating.
