A multi-analyzer is a miscellaneous structure which allows pawns working on nearby hi-tech research benches to research the most advanced projects on the research tree. Additionally, these benches gain a 10% Research Speed bonus.
Acquisition
Multi-analyzers can be constructed once the Multi-analyzer research project has been completed. They require 40 Steel, 50 Plasteel, 20 Gold, 8 Components, 10,000 ticks (2.78 mins) of work, and a Construction skill of 8.
Summary
Multi-analyzers link to all hi-tech research benches within 4 tiles. Only linked benches can be used to research projects that require the multi-analyzer. Note that simple research benches cannot be linked to multi-analyzers.
Multi-analyzers also provide a +10% research speed boost, comparable to lowering a 4000 Research point project such as Starflight Basics to 3636 research points at 100% speed. This buff is added onto the hi-tech research bench, then multiplied by every other factor. In practice, the multi-analyzer will always make research 1.1x faster.
One multi-analyzer can boost any number of nearby benches at once, but the effects of multiple multi-analyzers do not stack.

Analysis
The multi-analyzer is not strictly necessary unless the goal is to construct a ship, as otherwise the game can be reliably completed without the projects it unlocks. Despite this, it is still a very useful tool to have - the research buff will eventually pay off the investment required to unlock it and several of the projects unlocked provide useful options to the colony. Particularly notable projects that require the multi-analyzer include bionics and both tiers of fabrication, which frees the player for the whims of Trader RNG, and marine or cataphract armor, allowing access the masterwork and legendary quality without getting very lucky with a quest reward.
Ideally, the requisite plasteel and gold should be sourced before researching the multi-analyzer. Look out for traders with plasteel and gold, or mine it out yourself.
Due the research speed buff, the analyzer should be procured as early as possible to ensure it applies to the maximum number of research projects. Paying back its fairly significant research cost requires 40,000 research points for New Arrivals, and 80,000 points for New Tribes. Note that, as of Version 1.3.3200, there are 150,900 points of research to be completed, excluding the project to unlock the multi-analyzer and its chain of prerequisites. This does not account for the research unlocked, or research penalties applied, by the starting scenario.
