Something I am very curious because I recently had an encounter with insectoids and by just luring them away from the hive for some reason they just stop seeking out colonists and proceeded to try getting close to the hive yet again, was actually able to tame one without destroying the hive and getting constantly beaten to death so i'm curious what really caused this. I will mention since it is important I do play with mods, so there is a possibility one of the mods affected the behavior, but I don't think it should. Infestation was provoked from a quest and spawned in a room, where I proceeded to lure out one of the insects and closed the door on them. Oddly enough if the insect was attacked atleast once it was actually aggressive for some time when it was away from the hive.

Reply to "[1.3.3159]Why did the devs add gestation if the tamed magaspiders don't mate?"
Is it a bug?
It's unclear why.
The megapspider and spelopede have their gestation explicitly set to 6 in their xml files, so it's hard to imagine that the devs never had an intention for them to reproduce. The reason they don't mate even though they have a gestation time is because their body type, EusocialInsectAdult, isn't set as reproductive, unlike the AnimalAdult body type.
I'm not sure how long megaspiders and spelopedes have had a gestation time, but they've had it for at least all of version 1.3.
