I have yet to own the DLC but from what I'm reading, with the mental breaks it may be ideal to have dead calm pawns read it, and do mental breaks caused by a tome cause catharsis and tortured artist's creativity inspiration? albeit, 1 to 5% chance is really low.

Correct, I actually have used this strategy in practice. You have to have a bit of luck though, since they usually stop reading after an hour or two. But you could set them to reading tomes only.
