Given the sheer number of spam accounts lately, do you think we should temporarily block new user creation or un-automoderated users creating pages?

Nobody but you and me ever sees their spam anyway because its caught by moderation, but maybe a couple weeks of it not working will convince them to move on. If it doesn't work, we can always just revert the change and keep moderating them anyway.

Lemme know what you think.

It all looks like automated spam bots to me, so I don't think disabling page creation for new users would be effective. I'm also wary of bogging down the new editor experience - someone might be discouraged from contributing if they see they can't create a new page on their fresh account.

I think that the moderation plugin already covers the spam issue perfectly. The spam is a touch annoying, but I think it's manageable.

I agree that its automated but the preview shown to editors of their proposed edits might be fooling any checks into thinking their spam is going up. But all good, juat wanted to run it by you.
