The multi-analyzer is not strictly necessary unless the goal is to construct a ship, as otherwise the game can be reliably completed without the projects it unlocks. Despite this, it is still a very useful tool to have - the research buff will eventually pay off the investment required to unlock it and several of the projects unlocked provide useful options to the colony. Particularly notable projects that require the multi-analyzer include bionics and both tiers of fabrication, which frees the player for the whims of Trader RNG, and marine or cataphract RoyaltyIcon armor, allowing access the masterwork and legendary quality without getting very lucky with a quest reward.

Due the research speed buff, the analyzer should be procured as early as possible to ensure it applies to the maximum number of research projects. Paying back its fairly significant research cost requires 40,000 research points for New Arrivals, and 80,000 points for New Tribes. Note that, as of Version 1.3.3200, there are 150,900 <!--161,200 - 10,300 --> points of research to be completed, excluding the project to unlock the multi-analyzer and its chain of prerequisites. This does not account for the research unlocked, or research penalties applied, by the starting scenario.

A multi-analyzer is a miscellaneous structure which allows pawns working on nearby hi-tech research benches to research the most advanced projects on the research tree. Additionally, these benches gain a 10% Research Speed bonus.

Acquisition[edit]

Multi-analyzers can be constructed once the multi-analyzer research project has been completed. Each requires Steel 40 Steel, Plasteel 50 Plasteel, Gold 20 Gold, Component 8 Components, 10,000 ticks (2.78 mins) of work modified by the construction speed of the builder, and a construction skill of 8.

Summary[edit]

Maximum multi-analyzer distance

Multi-analyzers link to all hi-tech research benches within 4 tiles. Only linked benches can be used to research projects that require the multi-analyzer. Note that simple research benches cannot be linked to multi-analyzers.

Multi-analyzers also provide a +10% research speed boost, comparable to lowering a 4000 Research point project such as Starflight Basics to 3636 research points at 100% speed. This buff is then multiplied by any and all other factors to research speed.

One multi-analyzer can boost any number of nearby benches at once, but the effects of multiple multi-analyzers do not stack.

Analysis[edit]

The multi-analyzer is not strictly necessary unless you want to construct a ship. However, the projects unlocked by the analyzer can be extremely useful, such as Fabrication to free yourself from component trader RNG, or the ability to create marine and cataphract Content added by the Royalty DLC armor.

The research speed buff makes the multi-analyzer a priority to construct, to minimize the amount of research you'll need to do. If you need the multi-analyzer in the future, anyways, then you might as well build one early for the speed boost. Ideally, the requisite plasteel and gold should be sourced before researching the multi-analyzer. Look out for traders with plasteel and gold, or mine it out yourself. The multi-analyzer can eventually pay for itself for its research cost, over time.
