A Small Altar is a type of furniture added by the Ideology DLC at which acts as a focus for pawns to perform and take part in rituals. It is the smallest size of altar, with the larger sizes being the Medium altar, Large altar and Grand altar.
Acquisition
The Small Altar can be built with 50 Stuff (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 500 for SMVs) in 5,000 ticks (1.39 mins).
Summary
The ritual focus(es) should be placed in your "Shrine" room, which itself has the "altar" or "ideogram" as a room role requirement.
Analysis
The small altar has the highest wealth, style dominance, and beauty per tile of all altar sizes. Small Altars have 10 style dominance/beauty per tile, when made of Wood.
It is also the only Altar option with a "light Terrain affordance", allowing it to be placed on any tile that can support a wooden wall, including a tile located on a wooden bridge.
These factors combined, makes it the best in class option in terms of efficiency of space, placement, "values" per tile and work/resources.

Styles
Ideoligions allow the selection of styles which then change the texture of the certain items and buildings when constructed by the colony. These style variants can be crafted if the colony has the selected style, or can be looted from raiders from factions with the requisite style.
