Nano structuring chip

Nano structuring chip

A molecular-restructing mechanoid micro-organ. It is necessary to produce certain advanced mechanoids and equipment.
A mechanitor can study this chip to help unlock higher tiers of mechtech research.

Nano structuring chips are a resource added by the Biotech DLC.

Acquisition[edit]

A single nano structuring chip will be dropped by a hostile apocriton upon death, regardless of whether the apocriton is summoned by a mechband dish or spawned naturally as part of a raid. It is not relevant who kills the apocriton - an apocriton killed by other factions, wild animals, or berserk mechanoids still drop the nano structuring chip.

Usage[edit]

Nano structuring chips are used to create various mechanitor items, and studying one at a research bench is required to research Ultra mechtech and Wastepack atomizer. The chip is not consumed in the process of studying it.

They are used in the following crafting recipes:

  • Product Ingredients Type
Wastepack atomizer Wastepack atomizer Content added by the Biotech DLC Steel 200 + Plasteel 50 + Nano structuring chip 1 Building - Biotech (Buildings)
Mechlord helmet Mechlord helmet Content added by the Biotech DLC Plasteel 120 + Advanced component 6 + Nano structuring chip 2 Gear - Armor
Mechlord suit Mechlord suit Content added by the Biotech DLC Plasteel 120 + Uranium 20 + Advanced component 8 + Nano structuring chip 2 + Powerfocus chip 1 Gear - Armor
War queen War queen Content added by the Biotech DLC Steel 600 + Plasteel 300 + Advanced component 3 + Nano structuring chip 1 + High subcore 1 Mechanoid
Repair probe Repair probe Content added by the Biotech DLC Nano structuring chip 1 + Advanced component 2 Medical Items - Body Parts
  • Analysis[edit]

Wastepack atomizers provide an entirely clean way of reducing pollution, improving quality of life. Still, in a lot of cases, it is easy to freeze wastepacks, let them pollute far away tiles of the current map, or dump them on a tribal faction. The benefits of atomizers have no recurring material cost, require no manual involvement, and do not invite any threats at all. If these are important, or if clean disposal is desired for personal reasons, then the wastepack atomizer can be justified.

The mechlord apparel is essentially recon armor with slightly less armor, a penalty to combat, and a massive bandwidth boost. They make sense to prioritize for a mechanitor-heavy colony, particularly where the mechanitor does not expect directly particpate in combat much. When deciding which piece to build first, the mechlord helmet has less item HP but is less likely to be hit in combat, so the helmet is best to make first for a combat focused mechanitor, and vice versa for the suit.

The war queen is the most durable mech in the game, and can further boost its distracting power by creating war urchins, but its damage output is lacking. If a tanky distraction is necessary, the war queen is the best in class, although it competes with the centipede variants which require less resources and 1 less bandwidth.

The repair probe offers a minor but downside-less buff to a mechanitor. They should not be built over mechlord suits or war queens if either of those are desired, but if there are no other uses for these chips and advanced components, they might as well be installed.

Finally, they can be sold, which should be done if mechlord armor and war queens are not desired, and the player does not have the resources to spend on atomizers or repair probes.

    Trivia[edit]

The chip closely resembles Cortana’s chip from the Halo series.

    Version history[edit]

    • Biotech DLC Release - Added.
    • 1.4.3555 - Updated textures for all super-mechanoid chips to look more appropriately ultratech than archotech.
