Fence
A fence made of posts joined by crossbars used for building pens for certain kinds of animals. Some kinds of animals can get past fences. Predators will not hunt creatures on the other side of a fence, but may still wander inside.

Fences are structures that are passable by all pawns except farm animals, and can be used in combination with walls, doors, and fence gates to enclose a pen.
Acquisition
The fence constructed out of 1 Stuff (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 10 for SMVs).
Summary
In combination with the above mentioned structures, the fence is used to enclose a pen. Be aware that predatorial animals can enter pens by jumping over.
Analysis
Fences provide a cheaper and more accessible way of creating a pen (colonists can walk over to do what they need to do, unlike walls), but have the weakness of enabling predators to eat your farm animals, if the predator happens to wander* into the pen.
- (* This can be a confusing mechanic; predators will not detect an animal on the other side of a fence and so will not "hunt" them. However, predators, while wandering a map, are not blocked by that fence, and can, randomly, cross over to the same side as your animals - and then they can detect, hunt and kill them. If there are wolves/wargs/bears/cougars or other predators on your map, keep an eye on them, or (better?) hunt and kill them first.)
Fences slow movement and cannot be stood on. This can be useful for slowing the enemy without providing much cover, and for blocking one side of walls, barricades or sandbags to deny their usage to the enemy. However, fences are not durable* and can be easily destroyed during firefights.
- (* Wooden fences have about 1/8 the hit points of a wooden barricade, 1/12 of cloth sandbags; stone fences are only about twice that value.)
Fences do not block Wind turbines.
