Mass chaos skip is a level 6 psycast that uses chaos skipping to teleport multiple pawns in its area of effect to a random location within its radius.
Acquisition[edit]
There are two ways to acquire the mass chaos skip psycast:
- Upon reaching psylink level 6, a random psycast of level 6 is granted regardless of how this level up is achieved. This won't apply if the psycaster already knew one or more level 6 psycast.
- Mass chaos skip can also be acquired from a psytrainer naming it. See the psytrainer page for further details.
Summary[edit]
Upon casting, mass chaos skip will teleport all eligible pawns inside the targeted area (including the caster if in the radius) to random tiles within a 7-25 tile radius, into a tile that was in their original line of sight. Upon arriving at their destination, pawns will be very briefly stunned for between 70-120 ticks, preventing them from moving or taking action for the duration. Note that despite having a body size of 1, Apocritons
cannot be targeted by Skip, by reason of "Psychic Resistance". Only pawns with a body size of 3.5 for less can be skipped. For a list of pawns of body size ≤3.5, see here.
Additionally, note that skipping is considered a harmful ability, and will incur a goodwill penalty of −7 when cast on pawns from a neutral or allied faction. However, mass chaos skip will not apply a goodwill penalty if used on temporary colonists, such as quest lodgers or an imperial laborer gang.
Psychic sensitivity has no impact on being skipped, psychically deaf raiders and hunter drones
are just as vulnerable to being skipped around as any other valid pawn.
Analysis[edit]
Mass chaos skip is middling for a level 6 psycast. It is random and therefore liable to backfire, and costs a lot of neural heat. Still, it has a number of uses.
One of its main uses is to bring enemy pawns out of cover. However, doing so on a large group is dangerous as enemies can be teleported behind your colonists. Another potential use is to avoid explosions. While using mass chaos skip on your own pawns is also risky, due to the lack of cover and random positioning, this psycast is very likely to get pawns out of an explosion radius. The diabolus'
hellsphere cannon is especially dangerous and is worth skipping against in an emergency.
Other than that, it can be used on single targets or small groups as a more expensive chaos skip or skip if neither psycast is available. For example, it can be used to gain distance from a predator or hunter drone
chasing a psycaster that has this psycast.
Note that mass chaos skip's AOE can affect pawns behind walls, but the pawns can only be teleported in areas within their line of sight, meaning it cannot be used to teleport pawns through the other side of a solid wall.
