Silver tile is one of the floors that you can construct. It is constructed out of 70 silver, and increases a room's wealth by 73 per tile once finished.
Silver tiles also have a 0.2 cleanliness value, and have a cleaning time of 60%. For users of the Royalty DLC, it is considered a fine tile.
Acquisition
Silver tiles can be constructed once the Smithing research project has been completed. Each tile requires 70 Silvers, 800 ticks (13.33 secs) of work, and a Construction skill of 3.
Analysis
There are two primary use cases for silver tile, namely general flooring and fine flooring for meeting the room requirements of nobles .
General flooring
Compared to other floors, they are quite beautiful, but resource intensive and add a significant amount of Wealth to the colony. While it is an easy-to-defend way to improve area beauty and cleanliness as it cannot typically be destroyed without player intervention, their use as actual flooring is largely limited outside of player preference. It is considerably more efficient to construct sculptures to improve room beauty in most circumstances.
There may be some merit to its use in defensive areas, such as killboxes, where non-flammability is important, where more beauty will improve the mood of colonists in combat and help prevent mental breaks occuring at inopportune times, but where sculptures would be at risk of destruction.
Fine flooring
This section relates to content added by Royalty (DLC). Please note that it will not be present without the DLC enabled. |
Silver tiles are surprisingly competitive as a fine floor. Cleanliness is often the lowest stat in a fine room. As impressiveness values weight heavily towards the lowest stat, silver tiles and gold tiles are the only fine floors to increase it (if by a little). While gold tiles are more beautiful, they are 10x more expensive, with sculptures being a superior form of beauty.
Silver tiles have the same beauty of fine carpets, while only being 6 Market Value higher. Meanwhile, silver tiles are much faster to construct, have +0.2 Cleanliness, are 333% faster to clean, and are non-flammable. However, cloth is easier to grow in massive quantities when the biome supports it. If the cloth needs to be bought, then silver tile usually comes out ahead.
Note that carpet requires the seperate Carpet making research, while silver tile requires the usually-essential Smithing instead.
Fine stone tiles are also nonflammable, but only have +3 beauty. Stone takes longer than even fine carpet to construct, and creating stone blocks is a time-consuming tasks. The main appeal is that stone is very cheap; stone is nearly always available, and fine stone has half the wealth of silver. Fine stone floor also has a cleaning time of 80% (25% more than silver).
