Fine carpet
Luxurious, ornately-patterned carpet made from fibers dyed a single color. Beautiful to look at, but cleaning it is a labor-intensive process.

Fine Carpet is a type of flooring introduced in the Royalty DLC, to expand on the basic carpet of the core game. It has 100% walk speed and a higher beauty of 4 (vs. standard carpet's "2"), meaning it can cause a "pleasant environment" happy thought in sufficient amounts. They are also flammable. It has a cleaning time of 200%.
Fine carpets require more work and more resources than regular carpets but provide additional beauty and meet the requirements for nobility .
Colors can be be selected from a menu.
Acquisition
Fine carpet can be constructed once the Carpet making research project has been completed. Each tile requires 35 Cloth, 4,000 ticks (1.11 mins) of work, and a Construction skill of 6.
Analysis
While extremely work and resource intensive, it has a very high beauty rating, and either it or fine stone tiles is required to meet the room requirements for high-ranking nobility.
There are two primary use cases for fine carpets, namely fine flooring for meeting the room requirements of nobles, and general flooring.
Fine flooring
Against fine stone tiles, fine carpet has +1 beauty, takes less work to build, and the cloth takes less work to obtain, at twice the wealth. However, stone isn't flammable and requires only 80% work to clean, x2.5 less work than carpet. Fire can mostly be handled by firefoam poppers, but poppers need to be replaced. But outside of combat zones, or if a royal room sees a lot of foot traffic, these differences are relatively small. This makes the tiles largely interchangable for royal rooms.
Silver tiles are suprisngly competitive. Silver is only 6 market value higher. But it has equal beauty, a 0.2 cleanliness bonus, requires only 60% clean time, and is much faster to create. Silver itself may be easier to obtain, depending on your colony's climate and Plants skill. If the colony is producing its own cloth for carpets, silver tiles are more expensive. But if the cloth needs to be bought, then they are directly comparable. Thus, silver tile is a strong competitor to fine carpets, even ones with a cloth industry.
For gold tiles, using gold sculptures with silver or fine stone tiles is typically superior. Gold itself is not easy to obtain, negating most of the benefits of the tile.
General flooring
Compared to other floors, they are quite beautiful, but work and resource intensive. While its a good way to train construction skill as, besides failure, there is no penalty for low skill constructors, their use as actual flooring is limited outside of player preference. It requires significantly less work to construct regular carpet and sculptures to improve room beauty.
- Footnote: The fine purple carpet is very nice when paired with gold tile to create that Imperial Roman feel in your noble's bedroom and throneroom.
