Skipshield
Generate a spherical skipgate that sends all incoming and outgoing ground-level projectiles to some distant place. The process is forceful enough to detonate explosive projectiles. People and items are not affected.

Ability
Skipshield is a level 6 psycast that prevents ranged weapon fire in or out of its radius.
Acquisition[edit]
There are two ways to acquire the skipshield psycast:
- Upon reaching psylink level 6, a random psycast of level 6 is granted regardless of how this level up is achieved. This won't apply if the psycaster already knew one or more level 6 psycast.
- Skipshield can also be acquired from a psytrainer naming it. See the psytrainer page for further details.
Summary[edit]
| This section is a stub. You can help RimWorld Wiki by expanding it. Reason: Verify non-ground level projectiles. |
Upon casting, skipshield creates a circular shield centered on the targeted tile with a radius of 4.9 tiles for a duration of 900 ticks (15 secs), after which it disappears.
During that time, the shield stops all incoming ground-level fire from passing into or out of the bubble,[Wb inside?] and detonating explosive projectiles at the point of impact with the shield radius. Also note that this only applies to ground-level fire,[Verify] i.e. fire from ranged weapons carried by all types of pawn and turrets, including grenades that cross the boundary of the shield. Fire from mortars, orbital bombardment, or aerodrone strikes or salvos will not be blocked by the shield, nor will explosions crossing the boundary including those from intercepted projectiles.
Note: Pawns on the tiles shown in gold in the image to the left are shielded from attacks directly targeted at them, however, due to a bug, they can still be hit by attacks aimed at other nearby pawns that miss.
A pawn does not need to be inside the shield to benefit from the effect, assuming the enemy is not inside the shield and that the shield is between them and their attacker the incoming rounds will be stopped. However, it does not prevent pawns from moving inside the shield and attacking.
Unlike the other shields, projectiles that deal EMP damage hitting the shield will not disable the shield.

Skipshield's most obvious use is to cover your own pawns, allowing melee pawns to close, or giving a respite from attacks. If used for this purpose, keep in mind that it doesn't just stop shots going into the shield, but also from going out the other side. This creates a "shadow" - an expanding cone of area on the opposite side of the shield to the shooter where they can't hit. As the psycast can be positioned wherever you like, unlike the low-shield pack, a single shield can effectively cover a greater area with clever positioning. Also consider that it prevents firing out of as well. This can allow you to "switch off" any pawn's ranged attacks, even if you couldn't cover all of your pawns with a single or even multiple casts. This is especially useful when raiders drop-pod into the middle of your pawns.
The detonation of explosives on the edge of shield also allows you to bait raiders armed with dangerous weapons such as doomsday rocket launchers into harming themselves and their allies, while wasting any disposable weapons. Place the shield between the enemy and the pawn they will target such that the closest of the edge the shield to the enemy is at the point where you want the projectile to detonate. Used properly, this can devastate a raid with only their own weapons.
The radius of the shield is not blocked by walls. Therefore it can be cast on the inside of a fortification and prevent attacks from the outside doing damage to the walls. This is exceedingly useful for protecting against termites and other breach raids for a short period to prevent breaches, or buy time.
Version history[edit]
