An art bench is a production bench used by colonists assigned to Art to produce sculptures out of raw materials.

Acquisition[edit]

Art benches can be constructed, each requiring Stuff 75 Stuff (Metallic/Woody, 750 for SMVs), Steel 50 Steel and 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work modified by the construction speed of the builder and the work to build factor and offset of the material.

Summary[edit]

Unfinished sculpture

Pawns assigned to the Art work type will work bills at the art bench.

The following items can be crafted at the art bench.

  • Name Materials Work to Make Required Research Type
Grand sculpture Grand sculpture Stuff 400 (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 4000 for SMVs) 105,000 ticks (29.17 mins) Art
Large sculpture Large sculpture Stuff 100 (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 1000 for SMVs) 030,000 ticks (8.33 mins) Art
Small sculpture Small sculpture Stuff 50 (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 500 for SMVs) 018,000 ticks (5 mins) Art
Void sculpture Void sculpture Content added by the Anomaly DLC Bioferrite 50 024,000 ticks (6.67 mins) Void sculptures Art
Terror sculpture Terror sculpture Content added by the Ideology DLC Stuff 100 (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 1000 for SMVs) 030,000 ticks (8.33 mins) Art
  • Each art bench is considered dirty with a Cleanliness of −5, applied to the bottom-left-most tile from the player's perspective, regardless of orientation. This reduces the average cleanliness of the room it occupies.

    Analysis[edit]

Improving bedrooms, dining rooms, and rec rooms with art is one of the simplest ways to get consistent mood buffs on colonists. The bonuses from room quality are modestly large, have essentially constant up-time and, once built, don't need further maintenance. Additionally any improvements acquired later can either be replaced and used elsewhere or stack with existing art for larger buffs. This makes art an excellent investment in the mid- and end-game. That said, art should not be made a priority over additions that improve survivability. A bench should be built once the colony is moderately stable and having a pawn spend a long time sculpting can be justified. Typically only one skilled artist is required.

Considering sculpting art takes an especially long time, putting a comfortable seat in front of art benches is recommended.
