Terror sculpture are a type of sculpture added by the Ideology DLC that inflict terror to help keep slaves suppressed.

Acquisition[edit]

Terror sculptures can be crafted at an art bench, each requiring Stuff 100 Stuff (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 1000 for SVMs) and 30,000 ticks (8.33 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter and the work to make factor of the material. Unlike most crafted items, the quality of the sculpture depends on the artistic skill of the sculptor.

Summary[edit]

Terror sculptures cause slaves to feel terror, inside an 6 tile radius, decreasing suppression loss rate.

The terror induced by a terror statue depends on their quality. Material has no effect.

  • Quality Awful Poor Normal Good Excellent Masterwork Legendary
    Terror 3% 6% 10% 15% 20% 30% 40%
  • Pawns gain terror[Stacking?] by being near sources of terror and will lose terror[At what rate?] once they leave the area.

Terror, from all sources, changes the suppression fall rate with:

    • 15% at 25% terror
    • 25% at 50% terror
    • 45% at 100% terror[Detail needed]

    Analysis[edit]

Terror statues are quite ugly. This beauty penalty should be considered if using terror sculptures, but investing in high beauty materials to offset the penalty is not worth it versus using those materials to add other sources of beauty.

The sources of terror are skull spikes, gibbet cages, and terror statues. For skull spikes you'll need to harvest skulls from corpses, for gibbet cages you'll need to put corpses into them. Terror sculptures allow a terror causing building option, with no skull or corpse requirement.

    Terror versus slave apparel

Terror as a method of slave control has a number of key flaws that make it all but untenable outside of a few, very niche uses. Terror sources are inherently static, the radii of their effects are small, and as soon as slaves leave the area, or fall asleep, suppression begins to decay. Meanwhile, slave apparel - slave collars and body straps, are sufficient to eliminate suppression loss by themselves but have none of these downsides. So long as they are worn and no further apparel that causes further suppression loss is used, slaves can be kept at 100% suppression indefinitely.

The only exceptions are where are other apparel needs interfere with wearing the items. The slave collar is almost unique in its coverage, and has it can be added to almost any outfit, but the slave body strap's use of the outer layer places in direct competition with both insulative and protective options such as the parka, duster, and power armors. Instances where this is true are rare however - flak vests are compatible and offer sufficient protection in most instances, while tribalwear, shadecones, tuques, corsets/formal vests (the penalty of which is also canceled out with both straps and collar), temperature genes,Content added by the Biotech DLC can all improve temperature resistance and make it possible to survive in relatively extreme environments. As such, slave apparel is almost always the preferred method.
