Fibercorn is plant added by the Ideology DLC a way to harvest wood if you disapprove of trees being cut down.
Growing
Ground Type | Gravel | Soil | Rich Soil | Hydroponics |
---|---|---|---|---|
Fertility (%) | 70 | 100 | 140 | 280 |
Real Grow Time (days)[1] | 11.42 | 11.08 | 10.65 | 9.39 |
Base Yield/day[2] | 0.18 | 0.18 | 0.19 | 0.21 |
- ↑ Actual days to grow, taking into account rest time.
- ↑ Per plant, assuming Crop Yield Multiplier of 1.0.
Note that Difficulty settings change the Crop Yield Multiplier.
Light
Most plants typically require at least 51% light to grow.
Decorative Plants typically require at least 30% light to grow. Fibercorn oddly falls into this light requirement.
Most artificial light sources only provide 50% light.
Analysis
Although fibercorn has a low yield per day compared to other wood-yielding plants, it only requires a skill of "0" (zero) & a light level of 30 to grow, compared to 51 for all other non-mushroom plants, and a skill level of 6 for trees/cacti.
This allows it to be grown by torch or lamp light, indoors. Yes, without a sun lamp, and may be grown on fungal gravel, behaving exactly the same as when grown on "natural" gravel .
Combining this with its spacing, "low work" (when compared to trees), fertility ratings and soil allowance, fibercorn is in the top tier of wood producing plants, with poplar, oak and cacti.
Shares third place[By what measure?] with oak trees & Saguaro cacti of all wood producing growable plants. Although required NO research or heightened skill to sow (plant it), unlike trees/cacti.
Fibercorn are also unique in the respect that they are the only wood-yielding plant that can grow in a hydroponics bay.
Note that growing it indoors seems to negate its beauty score of 1 when outdoors, to 0 (zero).
Finally, its area efficiency is the best[By what measure?] all wood producing plants, as its "sow pattern" as every 1x1 spacing, like rice, not every 2x2 spacing, like trees.
"By what measure", expiation of Aazard's (my) suppositions:
3rd place
Aazard: correction, my opinion, on this page, is personal "bias": "3rd place" as in worth growing, when compared #1 poplar, as a tree, and Saguaro cacti, #1 as "not a tree or crop". NOT "pure production" of wood)
Further, successful, tests in an underground cave, in winter, by campfire, on Fungal gravel behaving exactly the same as when grown on "natural" gravel have only strengthened this opinion.
"work" to sow/harvest.... and its impact on "efficiency" is still under analysis, its more complex than I expected to figure out, in honesty
Area efficiency
Aazard: Area used, per "tile", in hydroponics bay, vs total production of wood amount in "1 full year cycle". I may be incorrect in my math, as I used it vs the "area" of a single tree (can you verify?)
Food Production
Unlike actual corn, fibercorn does not yield any human-edible products.
Economy
Fibercorns' raw product is wood, which has a market value of 1.4 silver. The refined product with the largest profit margin is a grand sculpture, having a 51.25%[1] profit margin.
