Boars are omnivorous wild pigs. They are quite pervasive, being found in boreal and temperate forests, tropical rainforests, and arid shrubland. If slain, they can be butchered for 63 pork and 14 pigskin.[1]

Gameplay Overview

Boars are surprisingly powerful for their size, having a damage output higher than that of a Timber Wolf, along with a fast movement speed of 5c/s meaning it can handily outrun your average human. Boars tend to be able to put up a good fight against predators such as Timber Wolves and Wargs, often severely injuring, occasionally downing, or even outright killing them on rare occasions, and are one of only two preys of these animals (the other being the Tortoise) capable of putting up such a fight.

Due to their high damage output and movement speed, along with a high breeding rate (any excess can be easily slaughtered for meat), ease of maintenance and low wildness (ease of taming and training), Wild Boars are a solid animal to have in the colony for release and rescue in early-mid game and hauling throughout.

Because of all the attack attributes mentioned and high numbers, boars turning manhunter and mobilising, or a manhunter pack of boars can often be a significant issue for the ill-defended, often leading to potential casualties, or even game over altogether.

Taming

Boars can be tamed using food. As omnivores, boars will accept meat or non-meat food. Once the player marks an animal to be tamed an animal handler will fetch some food and attempt to tame it. Boars have a small chance to turn manhunter on a failed taming attempt. Boars are not named when tamed but have a chance to become named when nuzzling.

Training

Boars can be trained as follows: (as of the newest patch wild boars are no longer advanced intelligence and can no longer haul or rescue.)

This animal can be trained as follows:

*As of version 1.1.2610, all animals can be tamed. The percentage of likelihood of success depends on factors such as the Animals Wildness Percentage, Pawn Handling Skill, and others. More information can be found on the animals page.
