Analysis
Elephant leather is the tied 6th most protective textile against sharp and blunt, and tied 3rd against heat. It isn't a good insulation, but a very good candidate for dusters and protective clothing, especially in biomes without temperature extremes. The exceptional amount of leather that a single elephant provides mean that as single elephant manhunter pack can produce a lot of leather for this purpose as well.
However, even elephant leather should be replaced by better materials like devilstrand in the mid-game. Dusters receive priority; using better materials on dusters will have more impact than other types of clothing. Elephant leather can be used for pants and button-down shirts when supply of better textile is limited.
For use in furniture, it has a middle-of-the-road beauty factor. However, it will eventually be redundant for clothing, while more beautiful textiles like thrumbofur will be in high demand for other purposes. Therefore, elephant leather is a decent choice for improving furniture beauty once the colony has transitioned to more protective textiles.
