Thrumbofur is a type of leather produced when a cook butchers a thrumbo. It is one of the best clothing materials in the game; thrumbofur apparel surpasses all other leathers in terms of protection, and it is one of the best insulators. High quality items can even match flak vests and helmets in terms of armor value.

Analysis[edit]
Thrumbofur is one of the most protective and insulative textiles in the game, with hyperweave being comparable and thrumbomane
being slightly better. Thrumbofur dusters are highly protective, performing better than a flak jacket, and a thrumbofur duster + flak vest is comparable to power armor. Even a pair of normal thrumbofur pants have a 12.6% chance to outright nullify a bullet from an assault rifle, and another 12.6% chance to halve the damage.
For use in furniture, thrumbofur is both beautiful and valuable, but is a waste of its potential. Sculptures can be made out of common resources, making them more cost-efficient for beauty and wealth. However, in the rare circumstance that you have so much thrumbofur that you cannot practically use it all as clothing and spare clothing for your colonists, then using it buildings will improve beauty and room impressiveness.
Compared to other textiles[edit]
Compared to hyperweave, thrumbofur offers slightly better sharp armor and exceptional cold insulation, while the hyperweave offers better blunt armor, significantly better heat armor and slightly better heat insulation. Due to the low blunt armor offered by clothing in general, the difference is only likely to be relevant at high quality levels and only on dusters, as the AP of most blunt weapons will completely nullify the little protection offered by the items. When insulation is not the determining factor, hyperweave's improved heat armor and the subsequently reduced chance to be set on fire tends to be more impactful than the small difference in their sharp armor. However, hyperweave cannot be farmed like thrumbofur and it is rare that enough can be obtained to completely supplant thrumbofur.
Devilstrand has worse stats other than improved heat armor and insulation, but it is cheaper and can be growth in-colony without much effort. Even if thrumbofur is in surplus, devilstrand may still be a good option for skin layer clothing, as the impact of sharp armor is relatively low, but the Heat armor will reduce flammability.
Thrumbomane
is strictly better, but harder to obtain, as alpha thrumbos are rarer, require long distance travel, and are harder to tame.
