Analysis[edit]
Mastodon leather is very similar to elephant leather in its statistics - trading away some of the textile's beauty for more cold insulation.
Like the elephant leather, it ties with Bearskin and Hippo_leather for 9th most protective textile against sharp and blunt, and 3rd most protective textile against heat, beaten only by Devilstrand and Hyperweave. As such, they are good canditates for dusters and other protective clothing - unlike elephant leather however, they can also be used in colder biomes. Mastodon leather is as good as Heavy fur for cold insulation, being tied for 6th most insulating textile against cold.
Despite its better-than-average rankings, this textile should be replaced by better materials once you can afford them. The aforementioned heavy fur protects more against sharp-based attacks such as gunshots, claws, and bites, without being worse than mastodon leather in any other statistics. Other textiles like Devilstrand protect significantly more against sharp-based attacks, but aren't as insulating against the cold. Thrumbofur and Thrumbomane are strictly better than mastodon leather, but are more difficult to come by.
For use in furniture, it only has a slightly improved beauty factor than other common textiles. More importantly though, wools are superior for beauty and reasonably common, especially considering Mastodon wool which comes from the same animal. Thus, you should consider using wool for furniture instead of leather, which requires killing the mastodon.
