Grav anchor
Prevents the local map from being destroyed during a gravship launch. Grav anchors passively reduce unstable gravitation shear in a large area, which prevents the damaging effects of a gravhip launch. It can't be constructed on the gravship itself because it would prevent flight entirely.

Summary[edit]
| This article is a stub. You can help RimWorld Wiki by expanding it. Reason: quests and biomes for listed locations. |
A Grav Anchor is an essential part of permanent bases with a Gravship or in orbit. Grav anchors prevent the local map from being destroyed by Gravship launches or abandoned if all inhabitants are lost in orbital locations like Quests#Satellites, Quests#Ore-Rich_Asteroids and Quests#Orbital_Wrecks
. Travelling from the surface to orbit is quite range- and weight-limited even with a Gravship[Check Tag], so grav anchors may be useful for setting up resupply or drop-off stops with better access to nearby orbital locations for exploring, looting, or conquering low-orbit.
Analysis[edit]
Grav anchors can be built on any map and effectively act as settlement markers in space locations, but are very important to keep safe if you can't return to their location immediately. Losing the Grav anchor with no other surviving colonists or friendly mechs
[?] on their map will cause the location to be lost permanently, losing whatever you've built or stored there.
Grav anchors could work well with Orbital scanners, since they find orbital points of interest without any colonist interaction required and work independently of each other even on the same map.
Grav anchors can also be built on temporary maps like camps or quest sites, but only means that the world location can be revisited at a later date if you launch your gravship from it. A colonist could wait behind after launch and recover some of the expensive materials used in construction, but there's not much reason to either land on or preserve camp locations with one. Unlike orbital locations, uninhabited camps are abandoned when empty, grav anchored or not.
