Rusted bed

A single bed frame with rusted metal and a torn mattress. It's better than sleeping on the ground, but just barely.

Rusted beds are ruins added by the Odyssey DLC. They can be used as a bed and have no quality.

Summary[edit]

Rusted beds are a form of sleep furniture. One pawn can sleep on one at a time.

Rest Effectiveness[edit]

Rest Effectiveness is a measure how fast a pawn will regain rest. A pawn sleeping in a bed with 80% rest effectiveness would regain rest 80% as fast, and thus require 125% time to sleep.

  • Rusted bed
    Rest effectiveness 88%
    (11.93 h)
  • Bracketed numbers are in-game hours to refill rest from 0% to 100% at the given rest effectiveness.

    Comfort[edit]

Comfort is a measure of how high a pawn can refill their comfort meter while using the piece of furniture. A pawn sleeping in a bed with a higher comfort value can achieve a higher level. It does not affect the rate at which comfort increases only the maximum level. Comfort levels over 100% have no additional effect. Rusted beds do not benefit from end tables or dressers.

  • Rusted bed
    Comfort 57%
  • Surgery Success Chance Factor[edit]

The Surgery Success Chance Factor is exactly what it sounds like - a multiplier on the chance for a successful surgery, assuming it is performed in an rusted bed. Most beds and bedrolls have a base value of 100%, which is multiplied by quality. Construction material does not matter. Rusted beds have no quality, and are always considered to have a ×100% multiplier to their base value.

  • Rusted bed
    Surgery Success Chance Factor 62%
  • This table assumes the rusted bed is inside a clean, properly lit room. For the full effects of light, cleanliness and placing the rusted bed outside see Surgery Success Chance Factor.

    Healing[edit]

A pawn resting in a rusted bed of any quality will have their Immunity Gain Speed multiplied by ×0.95 and heal an additional +5 HP from injuries per day.

    Analysis[edit]

The rusted bed is near identical in terms of Rest Effectiveness to an awful quality non stone blocks bed, or to a poor quality stone blocks bed. Comfort-wise, it is equivalent to an awful quality bed of any material. It also has the worst Surgery Success Chance Factor of all beds, including sleeping spots, and one of the worst Immunity Gain Speed Factors. As such, it only has only 2 advantages over a sleeping spot:

    • It negates the −4 Slept on ground mood for 1 day for not using a bed.
    • It has a higher injury healing rate than a sleeping spot (+5 vs +4)

Therefore, rusted beds are only viable if regular beds are impossible to procure. Such a case would require an entire colony incapable of Construction or a critical shortage of raw materials to make beds, both cases rather unlikely. Even in such a case, the humble sleeping spot will be better for most medical uses with the sole exception of healing injuries (albeit barely). Due to the previously stated reasons, rusted beds have little practical use.
