Grav engine
The ultratech heart of a gravship. The grav engine generates lift by inverting and intensifying the effect of gravity in a field around itself. This engine can lift upwards, but does not produce forward thrust. It can't function far from a large gravity well like a planet, so it is useless for interplanetary travel.
When launched, anything on substructure that's connected to the grav engine will be transported to a new map. Without a grav anchor, launching a gravship will abandon your current map.
Glitterworld engineers use gravships to launch orbital platforms and build skyrippers. They require massive and hyper-specialized facilities to produce, making them a rare sight outside of glitterworlds.

Grav engines are buildings added by the Odyssey DLC that are required to create a gravship. Only one grav engine is obtainable at a time per playthrough.
Acquisition[edit]
A singular grav engine is obtained from a mechanoid ship that crashes onto the map after accepting a quest, alongside corpses of various mechanoids, mechanoid ship chunks, and a large quantity of gravlite panels. Alternatively, one is included in The Gravship starting scenario.
If the initial grav engine is lost, stolen, or destroyed, the gravship wreckage quest provides a map location in which a replacement may be fought for.
Summary[edit]
A grav engine is necessary to build a gravship. The player must place gravship substructure under and around the grav engine to construct the frame of the gravship, upon which other buildings can be constructed. Buildings on top of substructure connected to the grav engine will be taken with the gravship when it launches.
By default, a grav engine allows up to 500 substructure tiles to be placed in a radius of 18.9 cells. Installing grav field extenders will increase the substructure count limit by 250 tiles each, up to a maximum of 6 grav field extenders. Each extender has its own radius of 16 cells and must be placed inside the initial radius of the grav engine.
A grav engine cannot be deconstructed, only uninstalled and re-installed. If the grav engine lands outside the buildable area of the map, it can be uninstalled to be moved inside the buildable area.
Analysis[edit]
A grav engine is trivially easy to obtain, as the original quest to obtain it appears early on and has no requirements. This allows the player to quickly build a gravship, since a grav engine is necessary to build one. However, a player is only allowed to have one grav engine at a time, and thus, one gravship at a time. Future quests to obtain a grav engine will not generate as long as the player has a grav engine.
