Sniper rifle
An ancient design of precision sniper rifle. Bolt action. It has an exceptionally long range, great accuracy and good power. Because it's so unwieldy, other weapons outclass it at close range.

The sniper rifle is a slightly heavier, single-shot firearm in RimWorld which deals a high amount of damage per shot; a long time between shots; very long range and high overall accuracy.
Acquisition
Sniper rifles can be crafted with skill level 7 at a machining table once the precision rifling research has been completed; with 60 Steel, 8 Componentss and 45,000 ticks (12.5 mins) of work.
Sniper rifles can be purchased from outlander and orbital combat suppliers or from outlander settlements, or recovered from raiders:

Analysis
The sniper rifle has the longest range of all weapons in the game, along with excellent long-distance accuracy as well as a high per-shot damage. Like the pila and charge lance, the sniper rifle a reputation of maiming or even outright killing its victims. Due to the propensity of destroying limbs, it tends to make a poor choice if you intend to take prisoners after a raid.
But, due to its sluggish firerate, actual DPS is one of the worst of the firearms, just on par with the neolithic greatbow. This leaves the sniper rifle to roles where the range is useful, such as provoking a siege to attack, or as one of best weapons to go hunting with. Also, close range accuracy is quite weak. This fact makes the sniper one of the most skill-heavy weapons of the game.
Compared to the bolt-action rifle, the sniper rifle trades firing rate and accuracy at shorter distances for additional range, extra damage and improved long-distance accuracy. The sniper rifle is more expensive and has a larger research requirement, and isn't common from raiders, outside of sniper-only mercenary raids.
On average, the sniper rifle is best paired with a careful shooter up to level 14, then with a trigger-happy shooter beyond that point.
