Void provocation is a psychic ritual that triggers an Entity related event to occur, but with a chance to render the invoker comatose.

Acquisition[edit]

The void provocation psychic ritual can be performed once every 300,000 ticks (5 in-game days) at a psychic ritual spot, once the Void provocation research project has been completed. Note that this research requires dark study to unlock. The ritual takes 5,000 ticks (2 in-game hours) to complete.

Summary[edit]

  • Causes an entity event to occur between 2 to 4 hours, or 5,000 ticks (2 in-game hours) and 10,000 ticks (4 in-game hours), after completion of the ritual. If possible, void provocation will cause an undiscovered entity to appear. If there are no possible undiscovered entities to be sent, a random already discovered but possible entity will be sent. See Events/Anomaly. Some entities require a minimum Monolith Level and some have other requirements.
  • There is a Ritual quality dependent chance for the invoker to fall into Dark psychic shock, being rendered unconscious for between 5,000 ticks (2 in-game hours) and 10,000 ticks (4 in-game hours)[Verify]

Analysis[edit]

Void provocation allows the colony to advance through Anomaly content faster than the natural storyteller, both by simply having more chances and ensuring that novel entities are chosen, if possible. To maximise this effect, ensure that the requirements of at least one unknown entity are met. See the Event list for these requirements.

Additionally, most Anomaly major threats have a chance to give shards, so this ritual is a decent way to get extra shards, and it's available very early into Anomaly.

Since the void provocation essentially adds another major threat, there is a risk of a standard raid coming in just after an entity attack has severly damaged the colony, especially when playing with Randy Random. Therefore, discretion should be used before provoking the void. If the colony has been doing more than fine overall, then it may be safe to provoke as often as possible. Note that some Anomaly events are not immediately threatening, such as obelisks, unnatural corpses, and golden cubes.
