Acquisition
The lung item can be harvested from live humans through surgery. The lung must be perfectly healthy in order to obtain the item. This bill requires 1 of any type of medicine to perform. Success chance is dependent on a number of factors, including bed quality, room cleanliness, and doctor skill - specifically the doctor's Medical Surgery Success Chance.
Removing a lung from a guest or prisoner will decrease faction goodwill by 20 points, down to the cap of -100. Removing any organ from anyone depresses the "donor" with -30 mood penalty for 7 days and 7 hours. Other colony members gain a -5 mood penalty, and the surgeon an additional -6 mood, for the same time.
Lungs can also be acquired through trading with faction settlements or Exotic Goods traders.
Summary
A pawn requires 1 lung to live. Each lung contributes towards 50% of a pawn's Breathing, so losing a lung results in 50% Breathing. Breathing itself affects Consciousness, Moving, and the Rest Rate Multiplier. A completely removed lung would result in -10% Consciousness, -15% to sleep efficency, and -20% moving. There are no artifical lungs, so a lung must be harvested or bought in order to replace them.
The tissue of the lungs can be affected by asthma, commonly related to age, smoking, or exposure to harmful substances.

Analysis
Lungs contribute a substancial amount to a pawn's effectiveness. If one is destroyed, you should aim to replace it as quickly as possible. Asthma and permanent injury are less pressing concerns, but are often worth the penalty for organ harvesting.
A lung is worth 1,000, as opposed to a kidney's 900. Lungs also reduce pawn capacity much more than a kidney, which reduces Conciousness by 5% and Immunity Gain Speed by 25%.
While worth less than a heart or liver, a pawn can live with 1 lung (and/or 1 kidney) harvested. If the mood penalties don't concern you (or don't exist due to Ideoligion), you can harvest 1 lung, 1 kidney, and 1 heart/liver before you kill a pawn. If you harvest a lung and kidney, you can then donate the prisoner to a Royal Tribute Collector for the same amount honor as a healthy pawn.
