Aesthetic shaper
A sophisticated package of hormonal and mechanite influences shapes the muscles and fat on the body, adding non-functional aesthetic tissue where needed to achieve a desired appearance. The implant can be configured to form various body shapes according to the user's taste - or that of their partner.

The aesthetic shaper is an artificial body part that improves the beauty of the implanted pawn.
Acquisition[edit]
Aesthetic shapers can be crafted at a fabrication bench once the Flesh shaping research project has been completed. Note that this research requires a techprint. Each requires 15 Plasteel, 3 Advanced components, 26,000 ticks (7.22 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 8.
Summary[edit]
The aesthetic shaper is a visceral implant that does not replace any natural body part. The aesthetic shaper increases a pawn's beauty by +1, which increases the pawn's market value, and also increases other pawns' opinion of them by +20. Note that all pawn beauty modifiers are additive and that a net change in pawn beauty above +2 or below -2 will have no further effect. See pawn beauty for more details.
The aesthetic shaper does not add any stat offsets to the pawn other than beauty.
As an artificial part, aesthetic shapers will give a mood buff to anyone with the Body modder trait, and a mood penalty to anyone with the Body purist trait. They will also satisfy colonists with a transhumanist ideology.
Installation[edit]
Installing the part requires 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work, 2x medicine of herbal quality or better, and a Medical skill of 5.
Removing the part requires 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work, 1x medicine of herbal quality or better, and a Medical skill of 5.
If the operation fails, the part will be destroyed.
Analysis[edit]
The aesthetic shaper improves the beauty of the pawn, increasing opinion of others. It is useful for social harmony, as higher opinion makes pawns less likely to insult each other and start social fights. It can help an existing couple together, fight traits like Annoying voice, and counteract negative opinions from ideoligion. It increases a warden's ability to reduce prisoner resistance by a small amount.
It can also be particularly useful to compensate for reduced beauty: it can cancel out the opinion malus from the ugly trait or the beauty reduction from the armorskin gland. When combined with the aesthetic nose, they can compensate for the opinion malus from the staggeringly ugly trait or the beauty reduction from the stoneskin gland.
Increasing a pawn's beauty above 2 has no additional effect on opinion. For example, a beautiful pawn will have a +40 opinion boost, with or without the aesthetic nose being installed, despite the pawn's beauty being 3 with the implant, which should result in a +60 opinion bonus otherwise. The same restriction also applies to the aesthetic nose. Also, keep in mind that the opinion bonus is completely disregarded if the pawn is disfigured (e.g. due to injury on the eyes or ears). Beauty and disfigurement also never affect the opinions of pawns who have the Kind or Psychopath traits, or who are completely blind.
On the negative side, increased beauty will also increase the chance of romantic rebuffs from married pawns (unless ideoligion permits multiple spouses).
However, this implant costs advanced components to make, which could otherwise be used for other bionics. The cost of aesthetic implants should be weighed against a bionic arm or bionic leg, which have stronger, tangible impacts on pawn performance. While it is a cheaper implant which pleases body modders all the same, the net +1-2 mood after having a single part like a denture is generally not worth the material cost. You can also reduce the effect of low opinion by separating pawns through their schedule; a pawn on the night shift won't interact with a daytime pawn nearly as much.
It stacks with the aesthetic nose, though beauty has no impact beyond +2. Note that if a pawn is disfigured (e.g. missing a nose, ears, etc.), then all beauty bonuses are ignored. Beauty also never affects other pawns who have the Ascetic, Kind, or Psychopath traits.
