Mech gestation processor

Mech gestation processor

An implant which increses the speed at which a mechanitor can produce mechs in a mech gestator. The processor optimizes the behavior of the mechanites in the mech forming tank. The implant can be self-installed in the same way as the mech link. The implant can be installed up to 6 times to increase its effect.

Mech gestation processor are artificial body parts added by the Biotech DLC that increase Mech Gestation Speed of a mechanitor.

Acquisition[edit]

Mech gestation processors can be crafted at a machining table once the Standard mechtech research project has been completed. Note that this research requires a signal chip to unlock. Each requires Signal chip 1 Signal chip, Component 6 Components, 3,200 ticks (53.33 secs) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 6.

Summary[edit]

Each mech gestation processor increases Mech Gestation Speed of the implanted mechanitor by +33%. Mech gestation processors have a max install count of six, meaning up to six processors can be installed in each mechanitor's brain. Each processor stacks additively as if it were +33.3̅3̅%, with the end result rounded down.

1 +33%
2 +66%
3 +100%
4 +133%
5 +166%
6 +200%

Installation[edit]

Any Mechanitor with Mechlink installed, can install the Mech gestation processor by themselves, it takes roughly 3 seconds to implant, no surgery needed.

Analysis[edit]

Mech gestation processors offer a significant benefit to mech creation and revival, allowing spare signal chips to be used effectively. Bandwidth packs are likely the most important priority for signal chips due to their large and permanent boost to bandwidth. Mechcommander helmets and diaboli also deserve unique consideration. Afterwards, the use of signal chips will depend on the colony's chokepoints and needs - mech gestation processors help if the colony needs to make new mechs or revive them, while control sublinks if the colony needs more mech workspeed.

As mechanitors in your colony can exchange mechanoids with each other, it makes sense to give one mechanitor all the gestators, then have that mechanitor gestate all the mechs in the colony. The other mechanitors can take control once gestation is done.

Best case scenario for the processors: Diabolus has the most cycles at 12. At crafting skill 0 that that takes 32 days. With 6 processors, it takes 8.73 days. It is significant if you are losing mechs often, even with a highly skilled crafter and multiple gestators running in parallel. However, if you're not, you should spend your signal chips on all the other upgrades they unlock first, with the possible exception of the mechcommander helmet which might already be outmoded by the mechlord helmet before you get to it.
