A plant pot allows a colonist to grow roses and daylilies either indoors or outdoors, in order to improve beauty. It cannot be used to grow crops. It has a fertility of 100%

A colonist assigned to Growing will periodically check the plant's health, and replant in the pot if necessary.

Plant pots are a cheap and fast way to provide decoration, especially if you have no artists or are low on materials. Unlike sculptures, the plant inside has a limited lifespan and needs to be replanted regularly by a grower in order to provide the desired beauty, and can be eaten by animals. They also provide less beauty than most sculptures.

Acquisition

Constructing a plant pot requires  20 Stuff (Metallic/Woody/Stony, 200 for SMVs), and 250 ticks (4.17 secs) of work.

Analysis

The plant pots are generally inferior to sculptures, as growers have to occasionally sow the pots, making it labor intensive (especially in large colonies, where growers need to run throughout the base sowing flowers, wasting time in the hallways of your base instead of planting food). Plant pots are better earlier in the game, when you won't need as many plant pots and cannot afford to make sculptures. Later, when the base expands and can spare a few artistic pawns, sculptures can take the load off of the growers of the colony. Alternatively, you can place the plant pots in the fields and have the farmers sow the plant pot as they are working, providing a nice beauty buff in the middle of the field.

Although daylilies are more beautiful and take less time to sow, roses should be planted because they only need to be tended to every 5 days.

Resource Compression

Utilizing the resource compression tactic, 15 kg of steel weighing 7.5 kg can be compressed into 2 kg of plant pot, allowing you to carry 3 times the steel you normally would. Resource compression has a drawback in that you will lose 25% of the invested resources (5 out of the 20 steel used to construct the plant pot will be lost).
