Adrenal heart

Adrenal heart

A special bioferrite prosthetic that allows a ghoul to saturate its bloodstream with stress hormones and liquid energy. The ghoul will move and attack at incredible speeds for a short amount of time. The prosthetic slightly increases the ghoul's metabolism, causing it to eat more.
Due to the extremely painful nature of the prosthetic, only ghouls can tolerate this enhancement.

Ghoul

Adrenal hearts are ghoul exclusive artificial body parts added by the Anomaly DLC. They replace the organic heart and provide the ability to go into a frenzy with increased combat ability, at the expense of making its user require more food.

Acquisition

Adrenal hearts can be crafted at a bioferrite shaper once the ghoul enhancements research project has been completed. Note that this research requires dark study to unlock. Each requires Bioferrite 20 Bioferrite, Component 1 Component, 13,200 ticks (3.67 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 4.

It can sometimes spawn on hostile ghouls,[Starter colonist?] however they cannot be harvested from them.

Summary

This creature's blood is saturated with stress hormones and liquid energy, permitting it to move and attack at incredible speeds for a short time.

— Ghoul frenzy hediff description

Hunger rate offset: +15%. This is applied as a permanent multiplier to food consumption.

Grants "Ghoul frenzy" ability, with cooldown of 30 seconds, which gives for 15 seconds the "Ghoul frenzy" hediff with the following effects:

Installation

The adrenal heart can only be installed in ghouls. Note that despite the description noting pain as the reason it cannot be installed in other pawns, methods of pain nullification such as painstoppers do not allow the hearts installation into other pawns.

Installing the part requires 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work. It doesn't anesthetize the ghoul, requires no medicine, cannot fail, but requires medical skill of 4.

Analysis

The +15% hunger rate is a small price to pay in exchange for ghoul frenzy, especially for ghouls with nuclear stomach who already consume very little food. After unlocking the metalblood serum, this should be the main heart upgrade for your combat ghouls.

The frenzy duration of 15 second is a bit less than 0.4 hours, half of the cooldown. For the aforementioned cost of hunger, you can keep your ghoul in frenzy half of the time, all day. On average, this will completely cancel the move speed penalty of all other ghoul-specific body parts.
