Revenant vertebrae
A prosthetic spine that allows the user to become temporarily invisible. The prosthetic is crafted from a modified Revenant spine, using archotech shards to restrain the dormant revenant. The user can manipulate the visual centers of those nearby, effectively turning themselves invisible.

The Revenant Vertebrae is an artificial body part added by the Anomaly DLC. It acts as a total spine replacement that also grants the ability Revenant invisibility.
Acquisition[edit]
Revenant vertebraes can be crafted at a bioferrite shaper once the Revenant invisibility research project has been completed. Note that this research requires dark study to unlock. Each requires
10 Bioferrite,
1 Revenant spine,
2 Shards, 24,000 ticks (6.67 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 8.
Revenant spines can be obtained occasionally through mysterious cargo quests. Otherwise, a revenant needs to be killed to retrieve its spine. A captured revenant can easily be ordered to be executed on its holding spot to gain its spine.
Summary[edit]
The revenant vertebrae functions as an alternative to a bionic spine. It fully replaces a shattered or otherwise damaged spine, and both prevents and cures the bad back condition. It otherwise provides no other statistical, curative, or preventative benefit. If the bearer is not a ghoul, they also gain access to revenant invisibility.
Revenant invisibility[edit]
Once a non-ghoul colonist with an installed revenant vertebrae is drafted, they gain access to the revenant invisibility ability. This ability makes the target become invisible for 900 ticks (15 secs) after a brief 60 ticks (1 sec) warmup time. After activation, it has a cooldown of 1 day.
Installation[edit]
Installing the part requires 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work, 2x medicine of herbal quality or better, and a Medical skill of 5.
Once installed, the part cannot be removed by conventional means. It can be overwritten by the installation of a bionic spine, however the vertebrae will be lost in the process.
If the operation fails, the part has a 100% chance to be destroyed.
It cannot be installed inside pawns that have already become ghouls.
Analysis[edit]
The revenant vertebrae's main use is in that it provides the ability to briefly invisible, a useful trait for a melee pawn to close distances without being shot, or to avoid heavy fire for a brief moment. A ranged pawn may also use this to escape melee and create distance. As such, when used on combat pawns, it has notable synergy with jump packs or locust armor
. It can also be used for the purpose of allowing one to sneak a pawn into and out of a location without being detected, such as for hacking a guarded terminal, or any other instance in which stealth may be required.
The Revenant Vertebrae can also be useful to give to body modders for a mood buff without affecting any stats, with 6 installed parts giving the maximum mood buff. However bionic eyes, legs, and arms all use more easily obtained materials. Two of each of these alternatives reaches the maximum buff and results in a significantly more capable colonist. Thus, the vertebrae is mainly useful should only be used for this purpose if the other options are unavailable, such as on Blindsight
pawns.
The main difficulty in using revenant vertebrae comes from crafting it. As it cannot be bought from other factions, the only way to obtain it is through:
- Researching bioferrite shaping and building a bioferrite shaper,
- Finding and capturing a revenant, which alone is very difficult,
- Holding enough advanced entities or constructing a secure enough cell to research revenant invisibility without the revenant escaping,
all of which together is likely to take several quadrums. As such, although revenant vertebrae is an extremely useful prosthetic, it will take a large time investment to obtain.
Revenant Vertebrae can also cure colonists with scarred or shattered spines, as well as the bad back condition from old age, similar to a bionic spine. A shattered spine can only otherwise be cured by a healer mech serum or installation of a bionic spine. However, as it cannot be acquired through trading, it needs to be crafted, which will be difficult as you need to be very far down the Anomaly research tree to unlock the recipe. Additionally to the fact that revenants may only appear once or twice throughout a given playthrough, it is almost certainly better to prioritize the other uses outlined above.
