Twisted meat is a type of meat obtained from butchering entities. It can be eaten just like any other meat, but most humans dislike eating it even when cooked into meals.
Acquisition[edit]
Twisted meat is produced when a cook butchers any of a number of entities at a butcher table or butcher spot. The amount obtained depends on the Meat Amount of the butchered entity, as well as the Butchery Efficiency of the butcher and a number of other factors. [Detail Needed]

You can also receive twisted meat by chopping down harbinger trees, providing 30 meat when fully grown.
Alternatively, creepjoiner pawns with the psychic slaughter power can fatally convert an organic target directly into piles of twisted meat, rather than their normal output when butchered.
Using the Transmute steel ability on a stack of steel transmutes the stack into an equivalent amount of one of several other resources, including twisted meat. Using the ability on a steel slag chunk instead produces 15 of one of several resources, including twisted meat. In both cases, the resulting resource is selected randomly, with a 20% chance for each option.[Verify chance]
Fleshmass nuclei kept on holding platform or holding spots regularly produce twisted meat. It creates meat on average every 60,000 ticks (24 in-game hours), with the amount influenced by activity level, producing an average of 96 meat each time at 0% activity and an average of 220 meat at 90%.
Summary[edit]
Twisted meat has no specific health effects, but consuming twisted meat in any form (raw, cooked, or paste) inflicts a −10 Ate twisted meat mood for 1 day. Ascetic and inhumanized pawns do not get this moodlet, but cannibals do. Eating raw twisted meat does not inflict the normal mood debuff for eating raw food.
As a raw food, twisted meat can be be eaten raw, with a flat 2% chance of giving food poisoning, or cooked into a meal with a food poisoning chance dependent on the skill of the cook and the cleanliness of the kitchen. Animals are immune to food poisoning from raw food but not from meals. When used in food recipes that require specific types of nutrition, such as fine meals, twisted meat is classified as meat.

Analysis[edit]
Twisted meat, while unpleasant to eat, can be used without penalty to feed ascetic and inhumanized pawns, ghouls, and animals. It can also be used in a biofuel refinery, biosculpter pod
, or growth vat
like any other food, and is required to make certain serums and biomutation weapons. The serums in particular have unique and useful effects, making twisted meat valuable and worth the effort to acquire.
For trade purposes, it is best used with bioferrite to make juggernaut serum, which is worth
200, 11 times more than its ingredients.
If the colony has an excess of twisted meat, it is possible to make (carnivore) lavish meals for a net +2 mood from regular simple meals. Gifting it via transport pod or letting it rot are other options for getting rid of the wealth quickly.
Acquisition analysis[edit]
The fastest stable way to farm twisted meat is from the fleshmass nucleus. If kept at a high activity level, you can expect roughly 200 meat per day, enough to feed 6.25 default ghouls, or 78.26 hunger-optimized ghouls with adrenal hearts. Or with a steady supply of bioferrite, the 200 meat can be used to craft juggernaut serums valuing
2000.
Harbinger trees are guaranteed to appear early on if the void monolith is enabled. These trees are safe and can be fed corpses, including human corpses and otherwise unusable rotten corpses, to reproduce, effectively converting corpses into a renewable source of twisted meat and bioferrite.
