Guinea Pigs are tameable herbivores with a fast movement speed. Guinea Pigs come in three colours: Cream, Black and Brown.

Acquisition

Guinea pigs can be found in temperate forests, temperate swamps, tropical rainforests, tropical swamps, arid shrublands, deserts, extreme deserts, and cold bogs. They can either be tamed by a handler or self-tame in a random event.

Guinea Pigs can be bought and sold in other faction bases and from bulk goods traders. Guinea Pigs purchased from traders will be already tamed.

Analysis

Guinea Pigs are of limited commercial use as tames. They provide only small quantities of fur and meat. They also have some of the lowest health values of any pawn ingame making them incredibly fragile. They will, however, occasionally nuzzle a colonist, giving a +5 mood buff, and are the only "wild" animal to have this "cute" quality.

Their limited utility is primarily in their fur. While it makes some of the least protective clothing, and is poor for use in sandbags, it has the fifth highest beauty factor (11) of any textile. Compared to its competitors, only chinchilla fur (14) and devilstrand (13) are reasonably available, and devilstrand is likely needed as clothing. Thrumbofur (32) and hyperweave (22) are significantly rarer and in far more demand for protection than beauty. This makes it an ideal material for Armchairs and Drapes Content added by the Royalty DLC.

The fur also has exceptional cold insulation, the highest of all textiles, and respectable heat insulation. It thus is a valid choice for clothing such as Button-down shirts and pants, whose protective capabilty will be irrelevant with all but the very best textiles and whose insulative abilities with Guinea pig fur may allow a pawn to forgo a parka or tuque for more protective items such as a duster or helmet in very cold biomes.

Lastly the fur is very valuable, meaning turning it into high value clothing for sale such as Corsets Content added by the Royalty DLC has some merit.
