Metalblood heart

Metalblood heart

A special bioferrite prosthetic that can pump a small amount of metalblood into a ghoul's bloodstream, making it more resistant to damage for a short period of time. Metalblood also makes the ghoul more vulnerable to fire. The prosthetic causes widespread swelling, slowing the ghoul down.
Due to the extremely painful nature of the prosthetic, only ghouls can tolerate this enhancement.

A metalblood heart is an artificial body part added by the Anomaly DLC that acts as a replacement for a ghoul's heart. It gives a ghoul the ability to become more resistant to damage for a short period of time at the cost of move speed and a vulnerability to fire damage.

Acquisition[edit]

Metalblood hearts can be crafted at a bioferrite shaper once the ghoul enhancements research project has been completed. Note that this research requires dark study to unlock. Each requires Bioferrite 20 Bioferrite, Component 1 Component, 13,200 ticks (3.67 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter, and a crafting skill of 4.

It can sometimes spawn on hostile ghouls,[Starter colonist?] however they cannot be harvested from them.

Summary[edit]

Artificial hearts are also immune to heart attacks and artery blockages, preventing future cases and curing existing ones.

By installing a bionic heart, the pawn's natural heart, if perfectly healthy, is harvested without a penalty. This organic heart can then be sold or stored for later use.

Use the metalblood heart to release metalblood serum into the bloodstream, reducing incoming damage for a short period of time.

— Metalblood injection description

The metalblood heart is a ghoul exclusive body part. It has a part efficiency of 100%. This fully replaces the functionality of a normal heart but provides no statistical enhancement - when coupled with the heart body part having a Blood Pumping importance of 100%, it results in a directly proportional increase in blood pumping when replacing a heart with impaired efficiency. Blood pumping, in turn, affects Moving. Moving, in turn, affects the following stats: Hunting Stealth, Melee Dodge Chance, Move Speed. For further details, see those pages.

Pawns with the heart installed have access to the "Metalblood injection" ability while drafted. The injection must be manually initiated by the player through use of a gizmo available while the ghoul is drafted and selected. Colonist ghouls will never independently use the injection. It is currently unknown whether NPC ghouls will use the ability.[Detail needed]

The injection lasts for 2,400 ticks (40 secs) and provides the same "Metalblood" effect as metalblood serum, namely:[Stacking?]

The injection has a cooldown of 15,000 ticks (6 in-game hours).

Finally, the metalblood heart inflicts a −0.20 c/s penalty to move speed - this applies at all times, not just while the metalblood injection ability is active.[Verify]

Installation[edit]

The metalblood heart can only be installed in ghouls. Note that despite the description noting pain as the reason it cannot be installed in other pawns, methods of pain nullification such as painstoppers do not allow the hearts installation into other pawns.

Installing the part requires 2,500 ticks (41.67 secs) of work, and a Medical skill of 4. Unlike most operations, this operation cannot fail and the pawn is not anesthetised. Like other ghoul body parts, the replaced basic ghoul heart is lost.

Removing the part requires ? of work, 1x herbal medicine or better, and has no Medical skill requirements. This operation can fail. But if successful, it will kill the ghoul.

Analysis[edit]

Before metalblood serum is available, the metalblood heart is better than the adrenal heart, if you don't need the move speed bonus.

When metalblood serum is available, another heart upgrade should be used instead, because the effect of the metalblood heart doesn't stack with that of the serum. This makes the metalblood heart only necessary if you still don't have a steady supply of bioferrite or twisted meat to make the metalblood serum.

The alternative method to get metalblood, a dose of metalblood serum costs Bioferrite 20 bioferrite, Twisted meat 10 twisted meat, and lasts 5 days, for an average of Bioferrite 4 bioferrite and Twisted meat 2 twisted meat per day. This can be improved by only taking the serum right brefore combat.
