Components are materials required to build and repair electrical devices (except standing lamps and sun lamps), as well as to produce firearms and armor, and ship parts. Because of the high need for components during the entire game, one should conserve their components and only use them sparingly. Although the fabrication bench can be used to craft components, steel, the thing components are crafted out of, will also be in short supply during the mid-to-late game.
Damage to their HP does not affect their market value.
Acquisition
Components can be obtained by:
- Mining from compacted machinery:
- Distant lumps using the long-range mineral scanner; each lump yields 100+
- Establishing other "quarry" aimed colonies,
- Deconstructing ship chunks
- Disassembling mechanoids at a machining table
- Crafting them at the fabrication bench for 12 steel; requires Fabrication research and a smith with crafting skill of 8 or above.
Ore
Compacted machinery tiles have 2,000 health each, making them relatively fast to mine. They can be found in small veins, ranging from 3 to 6 tiles in size. Each mined block has a base yield of 2 components, however this is modified by factors such as the Difficulty setting and the mining yield of the pawn.
Usage
Components are used in the following crafting recipes:
