Kid helmet

Kid helmet
A simple helmet sized for children. It gives moderate protection against sharp attacks. Not effective against blunt weapons. That said, if this is being used in combat something has already gone very wrong.

The kid helmet is a headgear apparel added by the Biotech DLC.
Acquisition[edit]
Kid helmets can be crafted at a fueled smithy or electric smithy once the Smithing research project has been completed. Each requires
20 Stuff (Metallic, 200 for SVMs) and 2,000 ticks (33.33 secs) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter and the work to make factor of the material.
Summary[edit]
The kid helmet is a child-sized version of the regular simple helmet, meaning it can only be worn by pawns under 13.
Analysis[edit]
Kid helmets are one of the few head armor options available for children, and steel kid helmets are fairly cheap to make. While the helmet is unlikely to actually save a child from dying, due to their reduced body part HP, any protection is better than none. The kid helmet is not the most protective option if all DLC is installed, but it's cost-effective.
Alternatives for combat include:
- A devilstrand ceremonial hood
provides better Sharp and Heat protection than a steel kid helmet while covering the entire head. It provides less Blunt protection, but even the kid helmet's blunt armor is barely relevant. It is a relatively cheap upgrade provided Anomaly content is active. - A vacsuit helmet
provides better combat protection than a steel kid helmet. It provides worse protection than a plasteel kid helmet, but is cheaper. The vacsuit helmet also provides Toxic Environmental resistance and Vacuum Resistance
, and like the ceremonial hood, covers the entire head. - A hyperweave ceremonial hood
is the best child helmet in the game, beating even a plasteel kid helmet, but hyperweave is prohibitively expensive.
In addition, if temperature is a concern, an insulating armor like a cowboy hat or tuque may be a better choice.
