The airwire headset is a piece of apparel added by the Biotech DLC.

Acquisition

Airwire headsets can be crafted at a Machining table once the Basic mechtech research project has been completed. They require Steel 50 Steel, Component 4 Components, 2,100 ticks (35 secs) of work, and a Crafting skill of 4.

Also, it begins equipped on pawns in The Mechanitor scenario.

Summary

The airwire headset increases a mechanitor's bandwidth by +3.

Does not count as clothing for nudity.

Analysis

An airwire headset equates to 3 more militors or general labor mechs, in exchange for the protection from a simple helmet or other headgear. Headsets are much cheaper, in both resources and power, than 3 band nodes. Somewhat useful, especially if your mechanitor does not participate in direct combat. Note that, until you are actually using the bandwidth, the headset does not actually help you. For mechanitor starts, you can take off the headset until reaching the initial 6 bandwidth cap to save on headset health.

Once Standard Mechtech is obtained, you can create the array headset, which gives 3 more bandwidth and only costs Component 4 components more to create.
