The array headset is a piece of apparel added by the Biotech DLC.
Acquisition
Array headsets can be crafted at a Machining table once the Standard mechtech research project has been completed. They require 50 Steel, 8 Components, 2,100 ticks (35 secs) of work, and a Crafting skill of 5.
Summary
The airwire headset increases a mechanitor's bandwidth by +6.
Does not count as clothing for nudity.
Analysis
A strict upgrade to the airwire headset, providing 3 more bandwidth, costing 4 components more to create. The array headset also has a higher research cost, requiring you to defeat a diabolus first.
The only stats that are meaningfully affected by quality are the deterioration rate and market value, thus in most cases there is little-to-no benefit and some detriment to higher quality headsets.
The mechcommander helmet gives the same, +6 bandwidth, but requires both plasteel and a diabolus' signal chip to create. The benefit of the mechcommander helmet is the protection it gives, roughly equal to a steel flak helmet while also giving some bandwidth. It may be more desirable to save the signal chip until you can create a bandwidth pack, which requires 2 chips. The bandwidth pack occupies a different slot, so it can be worn with any helmet. And unlike headsets and helmets, it never deteriorates.
