Vacsuit
| This article relates to content added by Odyssey (DLC). Please note that it will not be present without the DLC enabled. |
| This article is a stub. You can help RimWorld Wiki by expanding it. Reason: needs logic documenting how it appears on raiders; it uses the game's pawn apparel generator and so is a bit difficult to untangle. |
Vacsuit
A protective suit that keeps the user safe in the vacuum of space. The suit restricts the wearer's movement, considerably reducing their movement speed.

The vacsuit is an item of apparel added by the Odyssey DLC. It forms a set with the vacsuit helmet.
Acquisition[edit]
Vacsuits can be crafted at a machining table once the Orbital tech research project has been completed. Each requires
3 Components,
90 Steel,
20 Plasteel and 48,000 ticks (13.33 mins) of work modified by the general labor speed of the crafter.
Alternatively, vacsuits can be received as a quest reward or obtained from raiders in orbit.
Summary[edit]
A vacsuit increases the vacuum resistance of its wearer by +32%. Quality does not affect this resistance.
When equipped, a vacsuit reduces the pawn's base move speed by −1.25 c/s. As offsets such as these apply before multiplicative effects such as from Moving capacity, the actual impact on move speed can be larger or smaller than this value. For example, a pawn with 125% Moving would have their speed decreased by −1.5625 c/s, while a pawn with only 50% Moving would only have their speed decreased by −0.625 c/s. See Move Speed for details.
Analysis[edit]
Vacuum use[edit]
The vacsuit and vacsuit helmet set provides a complete +100% Vacuum Resistance, enabling pawns to survive in the vacuum of space until the armor breaks. In addition, the vacsuit set is the cheapest and earliest unlocked set to allow safe orbit travel. However, the vacsuit has a whopping −1.25 c/s penalty to move speed - over double that of cataphract armor
. Colonists should only equip vacsuits when needed - the prohibitive reduction to movement speed will otherwise greatly impact their productivity during regular activities in and around the colony.
Any of the power armor suits will provide a slightly lower +30% Vacuum Resistance while being better as general armor. Despite not providing total vacuum immunity (without external support), their vacuum resistance is usually enough to survive extended periods in orbit, especially if there is an oxygenated room available. Even recon armor and a recon helmet will provide +95% Vacuum Resistance when worn together, enabling airless survival for as long as 60,000 ticks (1 in-game day). Simply equipping a vacsuit helmet increases resistance to +99%, granting an impressive 300,000 ticks (5 in-game days) of safety. Therefore, power armor can be suitable for general use in orbit. However, power armor requires more research and is much more expensive, so vacsuits are useful before power armor is affordable. In addition, if there is no oxygenated room available, e.g., if using a drop pod or shuttle to enter orbit, then having 100% vacuum immunity is more valuable.
With the vacskin gland
, power armor by itself is enough to reach 100% Vacuum Resistance. The Breathless gene
provides vacuum immunity regardless of armor, making the vacsuit redundant beyond its high cold insulation.
Combat[edit]
Vacsuits are a poor choice for planetary combat. Compared to plate armor, vacsuits offer significantly less Sharp/Blunt protection and have a greater move penalty. It is further outclassed by the flak set, as each flak piece (vest, jacket, pants) provides more Sharp protection on their own than the entire vacsuit. It does have better Heat protection, but devilstrand dusters + flak vests are a better combo for that.
