A hermit crab is an animal added by the Odyssey DLC.

Acquisition[edit]

Hermit crabs can be found on coastal maps in tropical rainforests, tropical swamps, arid shrublands, deserts, extreme deserts, glowforests, and lava fields. They can either be tamed by a handler or self-tame in a random event.

Hermit crabs can be bought and sold in other faction bases and from exotic goods traders. Hermit crabs purchased from traders will be already tamed.

    Version history[edit]

    • Odyssey DLC Release - Added.
    • 1.6.4528 - Hermit crabs now hide in their shell when not moving.
    • 1.6.4566 - Hermit crabs no longer walk sideways. They also live considerably longer, life expectancy increased to 60 years from 12 years. These changes were likely made in direct response to a reddit post that gained some traction and pointed out the inaccuracies with hermit crabs as initially implemented.
