The Top Hat is a clothing item added in the Royalty DLC. Male Nobles between Squire and Praetor rank require either one of these, a Coronet, a Crown, Prestige power armor helmet, Eltex helmet or Eltex skullcap, to consider themselves properly dressed and avoid a negative moodlet. The Female equivalent is the Ladies hat
Acquisition
As a complicated garment, Top Hats can only be made at tailor benches, which requires complex clothing & Noble Apparel to be researched in order to be constructed. A Top hat requires 50 of any textile, and 6,000 ticks (1.67 mins) of work.
It can also be found on Imperial Nobles, for sale at traders and as a quest reward.
Analysis
Top Hats are a luxurious headgear that offers a significant boost to social impact (+20%) even larger than the Bowler hat's 15%, but provide no armor and equivalent or worse insulation and require significantly more material to craft. Thus they are inferior to, should be exchanged for, literally any other headgear unless required by a noble or for the social impact buff. Female pawns will receive a mood debuff while wearing this item instead the female equivalent, the ladies hat, should be substituted.
